Not really.

Spend as much as you can afford on a decent helmet. If you come to rely on it you dont want to be in the situation where you saved a few pounds and not your life.

Dont ever under any circumstances ever buy a second hand one and if you drop it on any surface throw it away.

Thats what I thought, and I got myself an AGV (which I still have)... it now creaks, and its squishy like a bucket... and bits fell off it (maybe its made by Renault!!).

Pete, what would you recommend for track use in a clio? How much should you spend for a half-decent helmet?

Good thread phunkey_monkeh, im interested in purchasing one.

The most expensive is not always the best. Thats wot i was basicaly tryign to say. And if its for a car, U aint gonna be needing a £350 helmet. but i wouldnt buy any old crap which i havnt heard of. I would go for names i know of and find out how good they are first.

Sounds like its been knocked around alot

Im not sure how good the search function is at the moment but there were a few good threads about helmets in the track day forum.

  Shhh

What about a helmet, and neck support roll.

Id pay no more than £50 for a car helmet, my bike helmet cost £100.

You may need a certain type, you could get a open face as you are in the car..

here my bike lid its a SUOMY GUNWIND very comfy its like alcantara inside it cost £280 if i remember right it is also ACU gold rated so it can be used for racing/track days not sure if cars are the same but bike lids have to be gold rated for you to be allowed on the track

if you go to the bike shops now you may be able to get last seasons lids a hell of a lot cheaper and they will be good quality DONT get a plastic one

^^^^

Do you have a convertible? ;)

I agree that more expensive helmets, are better in quality/safely and life. If you get something in fancy colours, then part of your money is going towards the paint job. Best gauge it by the price of a white one.

I used to have a Bell but have now got an Arai, i personally think the bell is more comfortable though

still gotta get my new one painted!

Ive thrown away crash helmets because Ive dropped them.

SuperStox drivers used to have one decent helmet for show/tarmac racing and one cheap one for dirt/wet racing, they all changed this practice when one of the drivers was killed due to a cheap helmet closing in on someones head during a crash. Your choice!

Phunkey,

I may be selling a Haydon Rep Shoei same as Omars pics above only with a Blue Shell and Yellow stripe.

I agree that you should not buy a second hand lid but this is almost brand new and unmarked. I bought it for the wife who used to ride on the back of my bike, but very soon after she became pregnant and therefore stopped riding. I doubt it has been worn five times, paid £350, want about £200, open to offers.

It is in the wardrobe in the babys room so I cant get the size right now, but If you are interested you can come and see it. I am in Swansea.

Go round all your local bike shops & try some on. Make sure the thing fits properly by doing up the strap and getting a mate to try & push the chin bar up, and left to right. It shouldnt move very much at all. Basically a cheap helmet that fits correctly will be much better for you than an expensive one that doesnt. Having said that the more expensive (Arai, Shoei etc) will generally have better quality lining, vents, visor etc imo. Also you should go for one that is comfortable for you. Different models of helmet usually have different shells (even from the same manufacturer). So if a Shoei size 55 fits you like a glove, dont necessarily expect an Arai size 55 to fit the same. Personnally I have a shoei shape head!
