can RS Tuner make any difference in rolling?

Hi all,

I am constantly testing my 172 RS with Honda Vtecs (but fully loaded ones), typeRs and different Clio RS s by doing rolls from 2nd gear to 4th gear or to 5th gear.

So I want to know if RS Tuner will help me gain any advantage in the rolls??

Soon I will order one so just want to be sure if makes any difference?

By no means scientific but I updated my 182 last weekend using RS Tuner (RON98 map) and recorded an improvement in 30-70 times (in 2nd gear) of about 0.6 seconds (down from 6.0s to 5.37s). 50-70 times in 5th were more impressive though (7.97s to 7.1s). Times taken with 90kg driver and full tank of fuel. In my experience the biggest gains are in mid-range torque between 3000 and 4500rpm - my PA graphs showed nearly 10lb-ft (13Nm) improvement at 4250rpm. Your mileage may vary.

That said the improved throttle responsiveness, improved smoothness, less erratic idling, better cold start behaviour and increased rev limit are equally good reasons for recommending RS Tuner.

All out i cant see there being a massive gain. For £400 you could fit a decat, matched inlets and the RStuner. Should get you just over 10bhp and similar torque

You mean your 0-100 km/h improved 0.6 secs? or your second gear improved 0.6 secs? If its the second gear, then I would say your second gear is pretty slow. Cause my second gear takes around 3.5 to 4 secs to complete 60 km/h to 110 km/h.

For related topics, yes I have read almost all the topics but they were emphasizing the torque and power gain in low rpms. But we start rolling most of the times from either 3000 rpm or 4000 rpm. So that's why I opened this thread.

Oh by the way I have a decat already and complete 60mm exhaust pipes with a muffler too. And a cold air intake as well. So the only thing missing is the remapping and I want to be sure if it really helps in between 3000 rpm and 7000 rpm while I am doing rollings.

Correct. 30-70mph (or 48.2kmh to 112.6kmh in metric). It's considered a realistic measure of a car's performance by the motoring community. A number of car magazines (UK) quote the figure. Autocar quote the 182's 30-70mph figure as 5.8s.

With your mods you'd benefit from a custom map I expect. If/when you get RS Tuner for an additional fee you can get Henk (from Fastchips)to develop you a custom calibration based on the data collected from the RS Tuner performance analysis and live data logs run against your vehicle.

Tooney, I couldn't understand what you mean by porting the intake manifold

I will definately do it if its something better than what I have done
