Erm, get out your V5, have a look on there. Needs MOT 3 years after 1s registered.

Don't think you can check MOTs online, I've tried in the past! Your car was registered 21/03/2005 so it should have been done in March!

Although check with the dealer you bought it from. They could have MOT'd it early for you to make sure they were selling it with a years MOT - standard 'approved used' procedure.

Speak to them if you can then mate. They may have MOT'd your car early last September!

That is right, but the car wouldn't already have had an MOT, so I think it's possible to do one whenever you like! But even then the expiry date should go from the third year after first reg. Goodness knows!

The Renault dealer will have a record on their system no doubt.

You can have an MOT done WHENEVER you like. The 1 month before rule is so that they can credit you the extra days that are left onto your new MOT. So effectivley a 13month MOT.

But you can have one done whenever, and it will last a year from that date.

Now in anycase, if yours had been MOTd early, you should have an MOT certificate.

You can check online.... its very detailed. You need a few bits from the v5 but it gives you all the details online.

Enter you Reg and Document Reference Number from the V5C

EDIT: found it here

Also, the garage wouldnt have sold you a car with no MOT !

cheers Has will give it a go

OT Status Check - No test status available

We are unable to process your request because of one of the following reasons:

you supplied the V5C Document Reference Number which relates to the latest Registration Certificate as issued by DVLA but the vehicle has no test that may be reported on,
or

you supplied a V5C Registration Certificate Document Reference Number which DVLA has replaced by a later document and there are no tests which took place before the date of issue of the later document that may be reported on,
or

the test referred to by the test number may not be reported on.
In all cases we do not report on tests where:

the test did not have a valid result
the test is subject to an appeal.
If you used a test number please check that it came from a pass certificate or failure notice or alternatively try using the DVLA V5C Document Reference Number if you have it available. If you used a DVLA V5C Document Reference Number please check that it came from the latest issued document that you have access to.
does that mean no test has been done?

It's not a definite no. If the test was done in sept, it will of been on a different doc number to your v5. But unless your sure don't drive it.

you'd have an MOT certificate if it had been done, i know i wouldnt be waiting 2 weeks to have it done, not worth the risk of no insurance and points if you get pulled over, etc.
Claim the cost back from them when the manager returns maybe? surely they have got some one doing his job whilst hes away?

If you have no mot it doesn't invalidate your insurance and it's a non endorsable offence, not that you want to be driving around too long without an mot tho.

if its non-endorsable and doesn't affect your insurance why would anyone have one? if your breaks failed with no mot and you had an accident then i am 100% sure it would invalidate your insurance and you can be taken to court and fined for no mot.

back from its mot. good news it has passed with exception of a bulb but thats sorted.

Bad news they managed to smack my front bumper on a post when they parked it so now i have a lovely scratch "that can be polished out" apparently caused by "my car being so low"
so ill be back there in the week to see the branch manager. at this point im tempted to give them the keys

oh dear goes from bad to worse then, caused by "the car being to low" LOL, nothing to do with them not looking where they're going.

Hope you got it in wrting that they damaged your car.

Knowing a dealer if you roll up next week they'll tell you it was sod all to do with them.

You need one to get a car taxed. Not having tax will get you a fine. I was pulled over last year with no MOT certificate and the car was 3.5years old. Didn't think anything of it at the time, they did a thorough search and document check, not saying that's the be all and end all. But they didn't have a problem with that.

Negative.

Driving without an mot, and driving with no insurance are two seperate offences.

My insurance documents, which came through a couple of days ago and as such are sat right next to me on the desk. They state the car must be roadworthy, and if the condition caused or contributed to the accident, then they reserve the right to recover all the costs from you. I am 100% certain not having an MOT would give them a massive get out clause here, that would probably end up in their favour from a legal POV and at the very worst would cause you one major f**king hell of a headache :)

My insurance is with Admiral BTW.

Ye but the reason i had no mot was down to them. They had told me it werent needed until sept.

The way I understand it is as follows:

For insurance to be valid, you must have valid road tax.

Valid road tax requires a valid MOT.

So surely, no valid MOT makes road tax void, makes insurance invalid?
