Can you put DVD's onto an iPod?

  BMW Z4 3.0i
I'm going somewhere for 2 months where I'm going to have a lot of time with nothing to do and was looking into iPods. In particular the 30GB one as if I get the right response it would be of great benefit for the money. Here goes...

Can I put my DVD's onto the 30/60GB (video) iPod's to watch? Ideally I'd like to put 10 series of friends and maybe some other stuff as well as a load of music. I think I've seen freeware to convert mpegs to ipod video but is there software to rip dvd's to hard-drive?

I've got a feeling this stuff will be out there, if you guys could just tell me what is the best stuff to use. Anyone watched video on an ipod, is it any good?

Christ I just thought! I could watch video in my car with the FM sender thingy you can get! Man this is sounding like a good idea.

So basically please tell me what I'd need to put my dvd's on an ipod and some recommendations for an fm sender for in my car. Thanks guys! :)

Done it, it looks cool, but 120MB an episode, around 240 episodes comes to just under 30GB! I'd have to get a bloody 60GB :(

Your new mission should you choose to accept it...

Find the cheapest place for me to get a 60GB iPod video!

Cheapest I've seen so far is Comet with £170 for white 60GB. I would prefer a black one if possible. Any advances?

Cheers fellas, yeah I've not got the iPod yet but d/l all the software to see if the dvd thing would work first. I used program called PQ DVD, it rips straight from the dvd and encodes to mp4 format in one go.

Your problem will beonly 3 hours batter life when watching videos!!!!

Xilisoft DVD to iPod Converter is very good, i have converted loads of DVDs, does take some time though.

I have imported videos onto i-tunes by simply clicking on file and ''add folder to library'' (My videos folder from desktop)

In i-tunes it gives the whole list of videos but when i connect ipod it does not upload them onto ipod!

Ive just read i-tunes actually has a video convertor (Click on video file, click on advanced tab, and then click on convert selection for ipod)

Seems to be working

i have loads of top gear episodes and denis leary on my ipod, good for the odd time i'm uber bored in airports, battery life takes a fecking nose dive soon as you start playing vids, no probs to convert dvd's on there. I found cucusoft ipod vid converter somewhere * cough * torrent spy *cough* but i think u'd be hard pushed to get a whole movie on the battery life, 2 hours max i'd say, but if u have a car charger its all gravy
