Can you turn esp off but leave tc on?

  Fabia vrs tdi
Esp is doing my head in and I want it turned off without turning off tc.
I have only recently started driving driving with esp on cos I thought when you pressed the esp button and the light came on then the esp was on lol what a fool.
Anyway I know its safer to have it on when its wet etc but I want to know how to turn esp off but leave tc on or do you not get the choice to leave one on but not the other?

Why the confusion? its a valid question.

No is the answer. The ESP/ABS and Traction control are centralised.
(That said you can disable the ABS)

TBH the traction control does feck all anyway.
My 172 doesn't have it anymore due to running an Omex ECU. And the car is turbo'd.
I don't even notice it missing.
Decent tyres, good brakes and paying attention is all you need IMO. Just turn it off!

Guess I will just keep it switched off all the time then unless its really wet or icy, I just dont like esp

I leave mine on during normal driving, tend to disable ABS in really bad snow if i can be bothered (Its a bit of a ballache) ESP is there to help during normal driving in certain conditions.

I doubt you'd notice it (ESP) even working.

Esp kicks in on me alot I have s**t tires at the moment though.
How do you turn abs off?
Like I said I had been driving with esp off for two months now thinkin it was on but now I have been turning esp on its a pain in the nuts, I just didnt want to be turning the lot off while esp was off.
Im not fully clued up on abs but is it a good idea to turn it off in certain conditions?

ABS works by temporarily disengaging the brakes when the wheels lock up.
When it's icy and you brake, you can skid. When you skid, the wheels are locked up. ABS disengages the brakes during a skid and means you've effectively got worse brakes than if you just locked up and let the friction between the road and tyre do the stopping.

Or something like that...?

Okay so how do you turn abs off?
Im assuming its the esp kicking in when its turned on, the light on the dash flickers cuts my power, yesterday I was going up a very steep hill in 2nd gear and the light flickered at me at just lost power thought it was going to stall so I just turned it off.
When I say s**t tires their not pe2s their not complete budgets lol and I have been driving for ten years now and no accidents.

Lol tbh, that's correct traction controlls default setting is off.

When the ESP/TC light is on the only thing working is the abs

Still confused, I thought esp and tc etc was on as standard and you had to turn it off lol.
Unless weather is terrible esp will be off, none of my other cars had esp and managed fine without it

  Not got a car
ESP and TC are on all the time, On the later modles there is a button beside you knee to tun it off.

ABS ???? Turning it off????? WTF

  Fabia vrs tdi
I know that now but when I first got the car I was pressing esp button thinkin it was off as standard lol I make my gf use esp everytime she gets in the car
Aint it better turning abs off in the snow if its possible lol

  Not got a car
there is no simple way of turning the ABS off, theres no magic button like for the ESP/TC and i wouldnt be messing with the brakes trying to make it do something its not suppose to.

Ok, lets break it down.

ESP - is for stability, so anything related to dynamics.

Traction Control - Limits the power sent to the front wheels

ABS - Stops your wheels locking under braking.

ESP and Traction can be switched off together but not separately

ABS can be "disabled" (and no you don't remove the Fuse, if you do you will die) but i've posted how to do it before and i'm not posting it again.

Isn't the ESP that adjusts brakes when the car starts to get out of line or is that EBD?

Heres another one for you. Why when you hold the button down does the light come on (and hense turn everything off), but won't let you turn it all on again? Try it :S

EBD is part of the Bosch ABS programming.

Just makes sure the braking force is distributed correctly

The job of the EBD as a subsystem of the ABS system is to control the effective adhesion utilization by the rear wheels. The pressure of the rear wheels is approximated to the ideal brake force distribution in a partial braking operation. To do so, the conventional brake design is modified in the direction of rear axle overbraking, and the components of the ABS are used. EBD reduces the strain on the hydraulic brake force proportioning valve in the vehicle. EBD optimizes the brake design with regard to: adhesion utilization; driving stability; wear; temperature stress; and pedal force.

And if you did what was described in the OP you would turn ESP+TC OFF not ON.
The light on the dash always means ESP OFF

yes i know that now, the light gets turned on when in the car unless really wet or icy

maybe its just mine that kicks in when it shouldnt, like i said going up a steep hill in 2nd with esp on it didnt like it started to flicker and lost too much power

Apart from when it flicks on and off because its working away lol.

Why not just get some decent tyres? Seriously I don't hang around and yet I very very rarely have the ESP, ABS, TC etc kick in. People who still do with decent tyres must be very over aggressive drivers.

BTW lets not bring the old "but on the track" or in the "snow" (2 days a year) crap into this.

I cant afford 4 new tires at mo I have one pe2 passenger rear with a slow puncture and the rest are falkons and the esp likes to kick in far too often so for now its stayin off till I have the cash for 4 pe2s

Maybe the ESP is trying to tell you something then? Something like lay off the speed until you get decent tyres lol:S.

But its not my fault the tires are crap, its staying off and can keep its opinions to it self. I have never had esp before and never needed it so hey f**k it

  Better than yours. C*nt.

What a lousy f**king attitude to take when you take everyone elses lives into your hands by getting into your car and driving like a wanker. One of the consequences I guess of fast cars getting cheaper is scrotes can afford them...

With a bit of luck you'll get locked up for dangerous driving, before it turns into death by dangerous driving. Unfortunately I get the impression you think you're Michael Schumacher because you've driven for 10 years and it would be all everyone elses fault except your own...
