  Track 172 Cup
Well I've sold my BMW as it was a diesel and I no longer commute to work far enough to justify having it (5 miles round trip lol sometimes I push bike it) and I have really enjoyed using my 172 on track although not so much on the road due to the squealing pads but that's the only thing that I don't like lol climbing in and out of the seats can be a pain but it's not that bad. Anyway I was looking a getting an older 197 R27 F1 (Liquid yellow of course lol) but it sold SO then I had a look at some Trophy's and wondered what people thoughts and opinions were. I haven't tested a 197 yet (although Knuckles was awfully kind enough to offer me a test of his but I couldn't make it stupid suit fitting for my brothers wedding lol) and I'm assuming the trophy won't be massively different to my 172 cup before I stripped it out for track. I have seen what looks like a mint Trophy on ebay but it's up for 6.5k (45k miles I'm sure most of you will have seen it) and for that price I'm not far off the 197 F1 money doesn't have to be Liquid Yellow but I do love that colour (was even tempted by a normal 197 cup as they can be had pretty cheap but that would probably be another thread lol), would the trophy be a better buy I'm sure I could haggle some off that trophy too I'm not in a rush to buy so could just make a silly offer and see what happens or wait for another decent 197 F1 to come up for sale. What do you think guys taking into account driving pleasure, refinement, exclusivity. (Don't mind the hard ride and if it has no air con etc for the miles I do, I MIGHT track it once or twice if I fancy something other than my 172 or its broke lol)

Depends what you're after. The 197 is more comfortable and feels a bit more modern. But the Trophy is just epic to drive, and will hold value better. Also slightly quicker, and significantly more economical. The gearbox isn't made of butter and brioche, which the 197's are.
Exclusivity? Don't buy a Renault.

Lol anyone know any decent ones with low miles and low owners for sale? I do tend to impulse buy so if I go see a nice one I would probably buy it anyone know what they're worth for a minter down to one that needs some work just a rough guide. Was going to throw a silly offer for the one on ebay with 45k miles.

Is this one over priced or what do you think? I know its from a garage and generally you pay a premium (4 owners and 45k miles Sachs rebuilt not sure on belts)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-Rena...605?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a02c9a55

or this with Belts and Sachs rebuilt (1 owner and 65k miles)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renaultsp...331?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3aa312bcb3

Best thing is I'm not in a massive rush to pick one up so can wait and make offers all the people can do is say no lol (had that said enough times and not just buying cars haha)

@Chi you have any low owner and low miler Trophys hiding away lol

Another option is buy a cheaper one and spend some money having it tidied up nicely by @bloke ..... Hate looking for cars lol I'm worse than my missus clothes shopping...

Had a look at that before as it's pretty close the only thing that put me off was the Cat D. Depends what he would take might make a silly low offer an see what happens.

  dan's cast offs.
if you're planning on keeping it for a while i wouldn't bother about the cat d side of things. as long as you got it for a good price it's all relative.

what would you offer? also if im looking for parts are they just 182 bits? and anyone know how much to have the sachs rebuilt?

I have messaged them both what do you guys think? the one @bloke linked i sent this too below.

Hi I have some questions about the Trophy, has the suspension ever been rebuilt? Is it Full service history and who serviced the car is it full Renault or specialist or just an independent garage? And is it TOTALLY standard apart from the exhaust. Have the belts and dephaser been done and who by/when do you have reciepts. And do you know what brand of tyres are on the car? What condition is the bodywork in and does everything line up from the repairs when it was damaged and is the colour match good

The one @ADS1982 linked I sent this too.

Hi few questions, has the suspension ever been rebuilt? and who serviced the car is it full Renault or specialist or just an independent garage? When you say Belts done 5k ago how long ago time wise months/years and who did the job and is it stamped in the book/receipts. And how many owners has it had? And is it TOTALLY standard apart from the Janspeed. Ever had any bodywork done, whats the condition like?

Lol I'm just waiting for them to get back to me.. Insurance is only £400 on Go Compare hoping to get a quote off Greenlight as they do my 172 Cup as a 2nd car with 0 NCB for £280 and i have 7-8 years NCB to use on the Trophy and with the Mileage I do should be a decent price.

The first one just messaged me and said 'Your better of ringing me' and nothing else guess I'm gonna have ring him lol hate ringing people (just hate phoning altogether) would rather just him answer my questions and if its worth me ringing then I would.

i didn't look through at what was on ebay, just the one i linked came up on the first one and it was reasonably local. other on is a pretty good price though.

think a rebuild on the sachs is around £400-500?

Stu I'd get a trophy. Was only chatting to Carl the other week and he was saying how good they are. Hold their prices too.

See I thought about another clio, makes financial sense etc. but because I've got one for track I wasn't sure if I would appreciate it as much of that makes sense. I can see you doing,

Bought a trophy, love it.
Sold my track clio and have decided to put the trophy on track.

Maybe.....

Nah I wouldn't sell the track one lol have too much fun in it and it's mine and my dad's and he wouldn't want to sell unless we got something bigger/quicker. If I had a trophy it would be my daily and be looked after for what you can pick a 1*2 up for it wouldn't be worth risking the Trophy in my eyes on track.

Although never say never lol if I had one I may take it for a Sunday lap round a track purely to compare it to my cup of course haha gently though.

Hardest thing is ACTUALLY deciding what I want as I've always just thrown whatever car I have in against what I wanted and never had this long too choose lol best thing is whatever I do buy will feel so refined and comfy compared with driving my track car on the road.
