need to get my glow plugs changed,

simple task? as was working alot thort i let someone do it.
took it to the garage and then he decideds to snap one off into the cylinder head, so now going to have to get the cylinder head drilled out. now it has been 2 weeks. and every time he says hes going to get an update from the engineers to who he sent of and report back, a day has past.

bloody better not cost me.

I hate touching glow plugs myself for this very reason and not that its much help now but... Renault "Super De-Grip" spray. Two squirts around the base of each unit, walk away for 10 mins, come back and have a go at them normally works wonders on them. I don't know whats in the tin (Obviously Renault don't make it but they remove ALL traces of source) but its bloody brilliant stuff.

If you can find a full time mechanic that hasn't snapped glow plugs off in the head, you're a better man than me.

Very common problem and not the guys fault at all.

And it's THOUGHT not THORT.

Never heard of that mike, have snapped them though. :( got a part number?

Renault "Super De-grip" 400ml tin - 7711429184

I had an Espace IV 3.0DCi in for glow plugs and I just couldn't get the rear bank out so hit the engine build manual for help that didn't involve fire. Hiding in the notes was the part number for this stuff and the promised solution for seriously stuck glow plugs and i've been a convert ever since. Its not cheap (Around £7 a tin) but honestly, its the best anti-sieze spray i've ever used and constantly keep it in stock.

Ive snapped a few, we have an engineering who comes out to us, gets the remaining snapped part out in like 10 minutes. Normally now i get the engine nice and hot then they always seem to fly out.

I've checked the cans in detail trying to find its actual source and there's nothing. Sneaky French

I also have a guy who comes out to drill them out. He's brilliant. You could well get charged for it, as Unfortunatly it's part of the job. They do sieze and shear off very easily. I try not to get involved with them for this reason alone.

I've had a few. Always warn people that it could happen, fortunately it's rare that I get a problem one.

It does happen.

I put it down to replacement intervals being too far apart.

My dads merc went into a main dealer to have them changed when it was 3 years old, same thing happened!

You took a car with a siezed glow plug to a garage, they tried to get it out and it snapped off cause it was seized, how is that anyone's problem except for yours?

If you wanted it removed without snapping it off then you should have taken it to a magician not a mechanic.

Its like blaming the person for opening schrodingers box that the cat is dead, they havent killed it they have just shown its dead, same with your engine, it was already f*cked you just didnt know it yet.

I've had a lower suspension arm bolt snap off leaving the other half in the chassis of my E36 a few years ago. The mechainic who was going the job got it out and didn't charge me full labour rate for the time he spent getting it out - top guy.

As said s**t happens.

You were probably a pleasant customer, where as by the sounds of this angry yappy little fella he'll have gone in there shouting his mouth off at them so I would think they'll have little interest in doing him a favour now, lol
