Car’s getting a bit warm...

...probably coz the K&N filter on it.

i have a cold air feed to the engine of my mk1 phase 2 RT but engine still gets bit too warm for my liking, any suggestions on how to combat this as i think it may hinda its performance when driving. when stood still i can understand engine getting warmer coz theres no air coming into the car. will another air intake direct to the filter like the other one solve this problem.

opinions, suggestions, solutions welcome;)

i have the same problem mate, and its only happend since i put my new backbox on, was thinking of adding a cold air feed, let my know how u get on plz ;)

Where ru guys running the cold air feed from?

Ive got the mk1 16v and have removed the panel nxt to the foggy to try adn hook up some air ducting but cant find anything that will fit right, or am i just being impatient and giving up to easy?

Let me know, cheers

You want a nice valver bonnet, engine runs at exactly terh same temo as befoere, teh vent is right over the K&N, gets a bit hot when sat in traffic, but soon cools down, even when just doign 20 for a short while

Will have nothing to do with the K&N.

Sort the cooling system out.
as ben said its a cooling issue, can u get low temp thermostats?

a friend of a friend has got a similar problem on his until he stuck a valver bonnet on his and it runns cooler than it did, thats on a 1.2 with a piperX on it.

my cold air intake runs near the passenger side fog light to the filter itself but i believe i doesnt supply enough air to that area of the engine when the car is stationary. i know the fan works coz it comes on often enough when im in traffic and gets the car down to a reasonable temp. once moving the temp drops a lot but chances are ill add another cold air feed to help the existing one out. cooling system is fine, water pump etc works i know that and the cars not going through water or anything, think its more of a case of the wheather getting warmer, so the engine will...i havent had the car long either, so im been quite critical of its performance, making sure everythings runing ok as you do.

let me know if everyone has ideas on solving this plz ;)

Its a bit of a problem when you have a valver and the air filter is nowhere near the bonnet vent! I think ill just run the air feed from bellow the radiator as the heat from the radiator is what is currently being fed into my air filter!! Not good! Then my temp should go down dramatically - also the performance will get A LOT better and i shall be a happy bunny again. My poor old air filter - must be getting choked!

I have just inserted a cold air feed in my RT.

Where the radiator is mounted it has plastic flaps either side of the radiator.

I drilled into this then sanded a perfect hole for my pipercross airfeed and this then goes straight up to my pipercross.

Easiest way i could do it as i dont have the hole next to the fog light like 16vs do.

I can get some piccies up tonight if people are intrested in the setup.

Just let me know

Maybe because you drive it harder now to hear the exhaust!!!

think ill be doing that son, i have had a long hard look at the engine bay and was thinking for doing a similar thing but not sure were id get the air ducting from as it would probably need to be heat proof to an extent. dont say halfords
