I decided I would see how far I could go before the my car was 'out of range' of the hand held transmitter. I was absolutey gobsmacked. I was 7 miles away from my car and didn't lose the signal once! 
How amazing is that!? I gather this means if I am indeed that far from the car and someone tried to get into it, it will still tell me. I am truely shocked but very pleased at the same time.
