car back after new clutch cable :(

cable snapped on sunday and ive now had it replaced with a renault cable, but my car will hardly go into reverse and every gear grinds like fuk, what can be wrong the guy who done it is being a complete d!ck and is hitting me with some crap about needing a new pedal now, which is nonsense, its as if i need to get the pedal down that little bit further to get into into gear smoothly, but its to the floor and it grinds into all gears except 5th, what is the most probable reason for this, thanks

Tiger,

Make sure the cable is routed correctly.

If it is then the guy who did it is not a dick and your pedal (complete with self adjusting mechanism) needs replacing.

he mentioned something about the self adjusting mechanism, what is this, and how much is it to replace this and the pedal? roughly? thanks

i had to drive mine for about 3 days after i had my clutch cable changed until it would feel normal.... now its the same as ever (pretty heavy) but its always been like that - since new apparently

Mine had a new clutch back in may and the new pedal assembly cost £36 including VAT!

Hopethis helps fella!!

its a little green(IIRC) adjuster that tensions the cable

yes maybe give it a day or 2 to see if it settles, but otherwise sit in the rear seat behind the drivers seat, then turn round so ur facing the rear window, then thro urself over the front seat head first into the footwell. Then look up, hey presto green adjuster thingy!

what you can do is take out the green platic stop and press the peddle once when it is out .. put the stop back in and hey presto no more crunching.....

if you find after doing this that it is harder to engage the gears, go down under the dash again, release the tension on the mechanism the when the cable is loose pump the clutch gain and it will take up the slack...

whil under there make sure that the gromet that comes thropugh the bulkhead behind the clutch is correctly situated and in place..

this worked after my last clutch cable....
