Car covers advice required

Anyone use or has used a car cover, if so what is the best type and how reliable.

I had a quick look around and there are some that are breathable (water resistant) and some that are waterproof, anybody had experience of either and pros and cons?

I cant afford a tailored cover so a ready to wear one will have to do, prices seem to range £20-£30 and is about what I expect to pay.

The car is parked outside, I intend to cover during the worst of the winter weather e.g. snow, ice, prolonged rain, but not long term as the car may be used once a weeks or so.

I don't want any scratches, so what is best? - some practical advice required from guys who have used covers.

No car cover can be put on a car while its still wet, so if its gunna be outside then its a waste of time tbh

I don't know what the weathers like in Yorkshire but it's not always raining in Essex therefore I can put the cover on when it's not wet and keep off the snow / ice / tree debris etc. If the cars going to be inside a covers a bit of a waste of time then surly?

As above - surely they're more for cars that are in storage. Make sure the car is dry and spotless, put the cover on and it'll keep the dust off (and presumably prevent any fading?)

Really wouldn't bother imo, do more harm than good.

Thanks all for the advice.

I'm sure its better to have one fitted than not in extreme weather, but only time will tell, will report back in 10 years.......

I will not be using the car in ice/snow or even the wet, but can see your concern on a frozen cover, it remains to be seen whether (sic) that is the case.

You can can get some VERY good car covers, but they are damn sire more than £30, especially if you want it soft and breathable AND all season...

I have thought about a cover but as the ice would make it stick you wont be able to use your car anyway! if its more harm then good I wouldnt bother but I still want one for some reason !
