Car covers

I’ve put this in the detailing section because I’ve read about car covers which can cause damage to clear coat - nothing major, but I’d rather not mess up my 182! I should add that it’s for outdoor use.

Could I ask for recommendations and pointers? What should I look out for in buying a cover?

I researched this heavily when looking for a cover for my Cayman Andy. The best ive seen and found are the ultimate outdoor covers from Classic Additions.
They offer fully tailored which are bespoke cut to your car and circa £400, then they offer semi fitted for around £160. These are cut to approx vehicle size, such as supermini, hot hatch, small, medium, large etc. Theyre heavy weight with a breathable soft lining and far and away they best ive seen.
As long as the car is perfectly clean before its covered and its strapped down properly you wont have any issues with scratching.

I've had one on my Cayman for 3 years now and as far as i canb tell, its absolutely mint and apart from some tyre shine where its covers the wheel, the cover is mint.
Porsche Club GB are afilliated with these guys and they do lots for our members. Ive not heard a single bad report back on them.

I was told not to cover my car unless it's sheltered away from the weather, as the wind and rain move the cover around and it damages the paint. Covers also have to be breathable too, as a build up in condensation causes the car to rust prematurely.

Good points made above, get the best quality you can afford and make sure there isn't a single grain of dirt or sand on the car before putting it on and it will probably be alright.

That being said I had a proper cover to protect my 350z roadster roof and that damaged the paintwork pretty bad during a storm. Never again for a car that's parked outside for me.

Yes, as above you have got to be so careful with car covers. They can do more damage than just leaving the car out in the elements.

Golden rules are the car has got to be squeaky clean, cover is clean (give it a good shake with 2 of you), strap it down to prevent movement, try and store the car in a semi sheltered area away from the wind and DONT cover fresh paintwork as it may micro blister.

My vee is kept under a car port (GT is in the garage) and is covered by 2 covers - first one is a custom fit indoor super soft lined cover. Second is a custom fit outdoor cover that is fully breathable and strapped down.
It’s been on the car for last 7 years and paint is still beautiful.

Sorry to deviate from the original question, but who is the go to supplier of garage case covers? My clio life’s in the garage but despite painted floors it’s dusty as hell. I’d like a very light weight almost stocking style cover to fit over the car if possible

Same as above. Classic Additions do the stretchy almost soft Lycra style covers you’re after. My old man has a couple for his cars in the garage and they’re superb.

How are these covers in windy environments do they balloon upwards or are they quite heavy?

How are these covers in windy environments do they balloon upwards or are they quite heavy?

They have 3 straps, one front and rear and one in the middle. My car is parked in a very sheltered area and it has only slightly flapped about in bonkers winds. It’s quite a weighty almost neoprene kind of weight and lies well on the car.
