Car feels a bit unstable at speed

  2003 Clio 172
I've had the car almost a fortnight now but not really had the chance to boot it a bit until yesterday. I noticed at around 90mph + (on a private road obviously, ahem) that the car feels a bit unstable, almost a bit 'skittish' for want of a better word. Obviously the car weighs relatively little, so I'm guessing that may well be a factor. It would take a very brave driver to push it to 138 or whatever the top speed is, that's for sure. All four tyres are brand new, so definitely not tyre related. Is this just a trait of the Renaultsport Clio?

Shocks go relatively quickly, I noticed a huge difference changing for new cup shocks. Definitely start there if no recent history of a change.

Are the cup shocks a direct replacement for standard 172 items

Mine would happily sit at 110 on a rush back to the calais-dover ferry after I changed out the rear shocks. Was terrible beforehand!

My 200 had new tyres and felt very unstable, kinda like it was on ice.

They had 60psi in them and were Toyo t1r.

Ditched them for a decent tyre and problem sorted.
