Car going into safe mode?!?

Hey a friend at work has a 1.2 16v 52 plate Clio dynamic,

Sometimes when he is driving, the electrical light comes on on the dash, follow by the engine management light and then the car will go into safe mode.

He says sometimes it can be triggered by just changing gear.

Also when he starts the car up sometimes, his revs stay at 2 thousand and if he puts his foot on the accelerator the revs won't move. He has to turn the ignition off and back on again to solve this, which can also put it into safe mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Should really get it plugged in to see what fault codes are showing up, I would hazard a guess at the throttle pedal sensor.

i think ive found the problem. your car is running windows....

check the top of the engine there like a tick rubber coated wire coming over from the back of the engine to the right hand side.. check at the top/back of the engine that the metal case it sits it hasnt cut though the rubber..

Theres the problem right there, I had excactly the same issues on my old 1.2, block was rubbing through the wiring.

1.2 16v Clio II... with a wiring fault you say? Well, that rarely happens

Bloody things are plagued with rubbish like this; tape up and repair any breakages and if problems persist replace the "short" loom for a new one from Renault. IIRC it's around £130

Yeah he said he had stuffed the box with foam and tapped the wire up bit still doing it. Will let him no, thanks

if u take it to Renault they may charge him but theres a metal block it sits in i believe to help (protect it) its crap get rid of it! my friend took his to Renault the metal block cut thought the wire. They repaired it for him and they didnt put the block back on his car.Its never had the problem again..
