Car Insurance Premiums - WTF?

  Turbo'd MX-5 MK4
WTF is going on??

2008 I paid around £450 and I've had no convictions or accidents/claims since that time.

Last year I ended up having to pay around £550 now the insurance renewal this year has come through at £750!!

Shopping around at the moment, LV quote £850, Directline £1050 with £350 excess!?

Who's giving good quotes these days because this is a joke!!

I've never claimed, have a clean license, drive a standard car and garage it at home every night.

Same problem mate. My car was £1200 to insure last year. Its now over £1500. Crippling, may well have to sell.

The claim culture has started to bite !
Us old bstards should be alright;)
Also when your motor reaches certain age panels etc become rare hence costs spiral.

I think it's mostly due to an expensive winter for the insurance companies. My car was written off by some r****d reversing into it.

some guy went up the back of me and smashed my bumper and when came round to renewal it went from £650 to £1080!!!

asked them y its gone up as some one went into me, they said well its because its a claim still, wtf!! u get shafted what ever happens now adays.

so i said u can have your stupid quotes im going else where, then got insurance for same price as before

Have to admit I'm not finding insurance too bad, pay £650 on my Megane and £350 on the Gordini Twingo.

Annoyingly though, I had some muppet scrape my old Lupo and claimed it off his insurance. Didn't put the policies up but my Megane's would have been £100 cheaper without the claim on my other policy!! F*ckers!

I had the same with Bell a year or so back, i had a non fault accident, someone went into the back of my vxr, when renewal came through it went up from last year and they said it was because im more likely to have an accident, wtf surely thats the other way round, i asked where they got this bullsh**t information from and they said its from a survey :S, they just try shaft you anyway they can

my renewal went up, according to direct line is because of increased claims during the winter/snowy season. it's not my fault there are so many idiots that can't f**king drive/control their own vehicles.

Its mostly due to knobheads on here, claiming for whiplash after an old woman hits the back of their beloved clio at 3mph.

I probably havn't helped all this having recently given DirectLine a £2500 bill to fix my car after an accident.:(

Oh boohoo cry me a f**king river. Try having a penis at 17 nowadays, I'm pretty sure I could pay for a sex change operation and female insurance premiums and still save money.

You're not 21 either Dave, you half asleep? I though that was an obvious one.

lol, sorry mate, was a bit of a dig at something else, not his age ;) Guess it had a double meaning, know what you are on about now!

surprised he's not made a thread on it tbh, guess he knows he won't get much sympathy.......

im going to keep this brief.

i work for one of the largest commercial insurers about.

in short, insurer's are not making the profit they want to be if anything we are loosing out. Our specialist personal lines department (modified vehicles, classic cars) e.t.c has been closed down and no premiums re-written as for the past 3 years they made a LOSS.

it's tough pointing the finger but insurers need to make the money so the company can run.

in the modern day i cant see premiums ever really dropping significantly. I'd say 40% of claims these days involve whiplash where everyone 'wants a piece of the pie'. the problem with whiplash is that's it a soft tissue injury, no doctor, consultant, x-ray machine e.t.c can tell you whether you have it or not just 'on the balance of probabilities' you probably got whiplash from the accident. This is making it near on impossible to defend any claims where we believe the other party was not injured.

there is currently a case on my desk, our bus hit another bus at about 2 mph in the bus station. other bus had a broken light cluster, we have a broken window. we have received 6 personal injury claims from passengers blatently trying it on so I am denying their claims. if their solicitors take it to court and the judge awards in their favour we will go down for 50k easy. for a £500 repair!!

this is why premiums are going up. you moan about paying £800 but when there's a 50k, 500k, 5m claim against you and your insurer has to pay you wont moan then!!

Insurance claims have made premiums rise a lot. Seems a bit unfair considering its the people uninvolved in the claims that are being penalised.
