Car Insurance Reduction Help

ok.

I do 30k miles + a year, I am not going to lie about the milage or the car (no mods btw)

I hear if you insure a woman on your policy it can bring down the price, if you garage the car it brings down the price...

what can i do to reduce my costs to potentially save me money aside from getting a lower group car?

After reading it on here, I went on the Elephant website and added a middle aged woman with no convictions/claims to my policy... they gave back some of my premium for the difference, and the saving over a year is quite considerable for me. Probably works for other major insurers too...

Worth asking your insurer the question too, insuring with your household insurer can make a diff, increasing security on the car (tracker?), increase your excess, dont have legal protection, become an advanced driver(!), park on drive if you dont have a garage, lots of small stuff but may be worthwhile.

Are you 25?

Lie about your profession... for example: teachers get lower insurance than, white van drivers (wild opposites, ok, but its all I could think of)

Tracker definitely works.

Play companies off against one another. They always ask what the lowest quote youve had is. Be honest. Renault offered me (25year old, 7yrs no claims) £870 on Clio Cup. After going to Tesco, Elephant, and confused.com, I went back to Renault Insurance. Am now paying £600 per 12months. Thats nearly £300 cheaper than their first offer. They clearly have a large area to play with!

Say the car is garaged

As Jon1978 said tell one company you got a cheaper quote elsewhere and see if they can match it.

Addin someone else to the insurance seems towok for some companies and not for othere all the ones that I rangup said it would cost more to add other drivers.

5 years no claims and its still hight? Crikey is it the milage that puts it up?

Anyway m8 how I got our quote down from 2 grand to £1300 was wack the excess up to £800. Basically my thinking was that any accident where I have to pay an excess Im gonne pay through the nose for the insurance then for the next 3 or 4 years (exactly what happened when I wrote my 106 XSI off) so basically any reletivley small accidents Ill just sort out cash rather than loose my no claims.

I have my car insured at my dads place which is like fort knox and is in a rural area, yet i live with my mum in a much more dodgy area, saved me quite a bit.

Lie at your risk.

Insurance companies are there to make a profit, they are looking for a reason NOT to pay you in the event of a claim.

If they find you have lied on your application form in any respect they are entitled to pay you NOTHING for hitting that new BMW and you will personally be liable for the £1,000,000 claim for whip lash as well.

Ask yourself if it is worth the risk to save yourself £50 a year on the premium?

I found that the way to get cheapest Qs was deffies to insure it in my birds name with me as a named driver. She is 26 & Im 25. It made quite a difference. Also agree with the bloke above who reccommends playing them off against each other- we managed to get it down to £550 a year fully comp with no crazy excess, £100 I think, plus all the legal guff etc.

Cant wait to get our renewal in Nov!!! And there was me after a Griffith 430 big valve as well!!! Get them for £13k now, but the insurance is about £2k!!!

I work for an Ins co. & we are deffies the biggest thiefs in the world.
