Car Mods with Tesco Insurance

  Illiad MkII V6
Anyone with Tesco and done any mods? What they like price wise and ease of adding to policy?

im with tesco, and they do accept mods. :) bloddy expensive though. reminds me, gotta change my insurance in august,

they do allow mods, but with any insurance company they will charge you depending on age, years driving, postcode etc. your excess also will rise. there is no harm in ringing them tho. my exhaust on my williams raised my premium by £80 a year.

im with tesco on a focus 1.6. I have chip, exhaust etc and i found them to be very cheap.
cant rember how much exhaust was extra, but at the time when they quoted me i cant rember thinking dam thats expensive!

to give you an idea of whats not expensive, i've paid an extra £15 each for my mods - exhaust, alloys, suspension, spoiler

  Mk1
its cheap for me because i havent told them lol. If my car gets written off its only worth a fiver anyway lol

Tesco do accept mods.

I think everyone knows Has's car by now... its the definition of Modified, and he is insured with Tesco all mods declared quite cheaply :)

Just seen this thread.

Yup Fubar is spot on there.

As known my car is slightly modded ;)

Tesco where the cheapest by far, (no i havnt "bodged" the insurance)
Every single mod declared, and they WILL pay out for that mod, unlike many other insurance companies! (who accept mods but dont pay out)

I used the same information.... with every company.

Tesco Cheapest
followed by Direct Line
(who use same underwriter)

Greenlight were £250 more then Tesco... and clearly said u may as well go with them.

Ok so they may not be brilliant for everyone, but i know a lot of people who have had very good quotes with them.

*Just a note check fine prints!! Make sure they pay out for mods....
You have cover for all cases such as AV equipment. some specify it MUST be factory fit !!!

Just a heads up for Tesco Online Quotes (and direct line)...

they quite often get your car wrong when you put in the reg number (they think mine is a williams) so double check that if you're getting a quote! :)

Sooooooooooooooooooooo....

How much you think you pay roughly for each mod with tesco Has?

Oh sorry, to clear that up!

Tesco work on a boundry basis.

For mods they go by value----

IIRC its along the lines of

£0-£500
£500-£1000
£1000-£2000
£2000-£3500
£3500-£6000

Im in the last one (heavily modded and all declared)

Last year i paid £740
a standard quote for my car was £410

Now dont forget i had a long list of mods

Im in the 2nd to worst post code (near town centre)
car is on driveway
12,000 miles use
Use for my occupation (student)

So not hardly the best circumstances..... and yet they prooved to be good.

Not always going to work for everyone tho?

But i did ask EVERY company i rang to make sure mods were paid for etc..

sorry for the slight hijack but how much would it cost to add 17's to a 19 year old with 2 years no claims on tesco do you recon?

^^ it could be anyones guess im afraid.

The best way to go about it, is to ring the company up, and say you are considering adding the following mod. At whihc point you tell them, and they give you a price calculated on your details.

we could sit here guessing, but i see no harm in calling them :D

I'm with Tesco too - my car isn't as modded as Has' but I've found Tesco to be spot on.
The best one was when I lowered my car 60mm on the Apex kit - once they'd put it through on their system and added it to my policy I was due a refund of £60!! How often do you hear of that - a mod declared and actually lowering the premium!
They're great for me and I'll probably be staying with them come renewal all being well.

^^ thats a classic !!!

Infact some of my mods took my premium down and most took them up.

This will be my 3rd year with Tesco (not because i like them) SIMPLY because no one can offer me the same cover elsewhere.

A) I want to be paid for my mods in the event of a crash (regardless of fault)

B) Feel safe knowing ive not lied to them or had to lie to reduce my policy, risking it being VOID.

tesco are crap!!!

for my mods they wanted

air filter - £132
lowering -£181
alloys - £156

and to add my mum - £52

they then heard a deadline tone.....

Agree they are shite at the moment..

600 last year with exhaust and suspension, this years renewal 1000....!

They said its a high risk car and the mods were 250...fucked them off and everywhere else was cheeper. Car in with mods 600 done and dusted.
