Car Not starting *Help needed*

Had this problem at the Cat&Fiddle run but BenP sorted it it for me by fiddling with the bonnet sensor but I can't remember what he did.

When I try to start it there's nothing there, the fuel pump starts to prime and I get the battery and Stop light on the dash, the battery isn't dead because the radio and the clock work.

If anyone could help as soon as possible it'd be much appreciated.

  Ph 1 172
only the ph1 have the red button ph2 and after dont ave any reset switch at all...i know that aint much help but least it saves you time looking for it lol

Not having any joy with this yet, relays checked and cleaned, TDC sensor has been removed, cleaned then refitted and still nothing, really beginning to annoy me this

Update- Went to start it this morning and it starting turning over but wouldn't start, presume it's because no fuel is getting through due to the fuel pump not priming.

3 beeps when locking means door, bonnet,or boots open, or that the alarm has gone off, i think its an immob problem by the sounds of it matey?

I had a similar problem. Try replacing the relays under the bonnet. £4ish each, from RS components online.

There's also a relay under the dash (presuming your ph2 is the same as the ph1 ?!) which is the closest to the door, and that one is for the immobiliser. mine died about a month ago and went mental. you should be able to feel it 'click' when locking with the key button (IYSWIM!)

Sometimes when I lock the doors I get 3 beeps if that's relevant to this problem?

Thats not a fault. It just means you were too quick to lock the car after stopping as theres about a 5~15sec delay before it knows you have stopped the car. So bleeps = car still thinks its running and uve locked it basically.

Have you checked if your immobiliser light is still blinking when your car is trying to start?

If you need anyone to help at any point give me a shout pal, I'll pop round.
Thanks mate, I will do.

The immobiliser light goes out after it's flashed, to be honest I didn't think it was an immobiliser problem because the fuel pump would start priming at one point. It's stopped priming now but the engine will turn over but won't start.

Cheers mate!

I read your thread last night after searching through loads of "my car won't start threads" lol

It's not a TDC issue. It'd crank if it was, it'd just not fire. Same with the fuel cut.

Since your pump is definitely priming, try taking the fuel rail plug out and look if you're getting fuel to the rail on priming it.

Well it's stopped priming since, now the engine just turns over but won't start. Where as when the fuel pump was priming it wouldn't even turn over :S

new key or try the spare. that sounds similar to mine. have a look on here for my thread, i posted a video.

also the immob light should be sold, then go out after a few seconds.

Tried that mate, also the light does go out once the ignition is turned on.

It's got to be something to do with the fuel pump because it's stopped priming. where's the relay for the fuel pump located? Also would that cause the heartbeat monitor light to light up on the dash?

mate i have the same problem with my cup, still dont no what it is.

i go to start some days car unlocks fine no beeps but when you turn the key the start fires for about 5-10 seconds then the ecu cuts it out and the stop light is on, no prime from the fuel pump or nothing, then if i lock the car i get 3 beeps.

only thing i have found with mine is it seems to do this when its on a slight slope if i push it out my bay on to flat ground it starts or if i push it out and back again it starts, doing my nut it as it only does it in my bay outside my house or on axel stands

It's f**king annoying isn't it? I feel like setting mine on fire and letting it roll off down a hill.

Only difference with mine is, mine doesn't start up at all and I've got that orange heart beat monitor light (limp mode) on my dash constantly.

Yeah disconnected the battery for about an hour before and that made it worse to be honest, it wouldn't even turn over after I did that, after about 20 minutes it started turning over again though. :S

It's a orange square box with zig zags running through the middle of it.

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=423300&highlight=heart+monitor+light 1st pic on that thread you'll see it in the centre of the dash

i no it sounds silly but is your car on a hill or anything as every time with mine its started after pushing it to a different angle, i have no idea why but it seems to work

It was, my drive is on a slight incline but it's been moved to the flatter part of the drive and still no joy with it. Very tempted to push it out in to the road to if that works, I'm at the point I'd pretty much try anything lol.

Getting the train to work is a ball ache.

Surprisingly the battery has plenty left in it, car still turns over and all the clocks/radio and lights work.

Not tried resetting it no, but the car wouldn't turn over if it was the immobliser would it?

That's the only thing for it to be honest. Not with a breakdown company so I'll have to pay a recovery company to move it.

Owning a French car + not signing up with a breakdown company = Fail :dead:

get cover now then call them in a couple of days mate, well fingers crossed it works out ok

the car does turn over if its key/immob mine did. turned over so many times then just stopped itself, sometimes ddnt turn at all just clicked.

the relays for fuel pump etc are the big black ones in the fuse box under the bonnet.they can sometimes apparently corrode so try giving the contacts a wee clean or something

Just start by replacing the relays under the bonnet ! They are #15 each from renault, or #15 for all three, inc. next day delivery from RS-Components...

they are all really exposed and after a few years of that, they get all fluffy and corroded

See my thread for part no's :)

Did that yesterday, they didn't look all that bad but I gave them a clean to no avail. I've only got two black relays though whether that's something to do with it being a Cup I don't know.

Car's provisionally booked in Renault for Wednesday (my day off work) apparently as long as it's 24 hours after you've taken out a policy with AA you're covered. Might try that. Cheers mate!
