Car number 35? SEAT Ibiza FR

Some of you may know I was dodging about in a 2005 1.8 Civic that's good points were that it was free and has heated seats. But it was a shed and when the abs pump failed my bro was keen to get shot before it was only worth scrap.

He's away with work for the next few months but very kindly bought another car for me to use until he gets home.

It doesn't have heated seats and is slightly smaller but is subjectively and objectively better in every single way!

Anyway, enough rambling. Pics from Arnold Clark.

But just cos it's not mine doesn't mean I can leave it alone. So quickly debadged it, polished the exhaust and painted the white tow hook black as well as adding some silvervisions I had lying around anyway

So far, the first 400 miles has really impressed me, 140bhp, 180 lbft, 50mpg is easy. Accelerates really nicely for what it is.

I had the older shape Ibiza FR TDI for a couple of years. It was great for commuting, fairly swift and cheap to run.

They look nice enough from outside, but how can a 5yr old car look so dated inside? A mk2 clio looks more modern ffs.

I do like this shape Ibiza in FR & Cupra guise but it’s just the Interior i can’t get on with at all. Still that’s some punchy torque it’s got!

Aye, the interior is defo the weak point looks wise but it all works and seems pretty comfy.

Can stream music and what not. CarPlay would be great but can't justify that just now.

For some reason they wanted a thinner centre console which prevented the standard Nav system being used.
The Fabia went with it though.

Hardly peak design either!

I can't figure out which is worse 🙈

Tell you what though, SEAT fb groups are hard work

Aren't all FB groups?

forums.seatcupra.net is pretty decent, being a Forum there's already loads of stuff on the Mk5 Ibiza thats been asked before so 5 minutes with the search usually gets you what you need.

We had an 11 plate cupra bocanegra years ago and I really liked the shape and the little 1.4 was impressive when you ignored the fact it used more oil than petrol 😂. Dealer was also shyte so it didn't stay long. Still like the look of them and the lad at work has an 18 reg FR that's a bit better inside.

May as well do a wee update, done near on 1500 miles in it already, whoops!

Popped up to Knockhill a couple of weeks back, my brother told me to not use his car on track. There was a really similar one there though.

Found some on track pics of that one too

Apparently it was surprisingly good on a wet track with 4 budgets on and standard everything. Only thing it didn't overtake was Daves RB 182. Maybe one day I'll find out for myself....

Anyway, because I'm an idiot that can't help himself I've put some silvervisions in at the front now which has been worth it ino

And found a spare sticker

Ever since I bought a 'freshly serviced' focus that clearly wasn't I've been sceptical. Kinda expected better from a big dealership but I dunno why I did

And after checking that I dropped a screwdriver down behind the wing so had to take the arch guard off to get it back, turned out to be a blessing in disguise

That would defo have caused rot. Did the other side too.

Overall really happy with it, sure it would look better lowered but it can do over 60mpg on the motorway, hold its head high on track (apparently) and everything works whilst also being fun.

If my bro doesn't want it when he gets back then I can see me buying it

Jesus there's Happy Forrest going on inside that wheel arch, is that all dropping down from the scuttle area?
