Car pulling when accelerating, clunking when changing gear

I thought my issues were sorted but apparently not.

The car is being f**king horrible when accelerating, just pulling to the right mainly, steering wheel juddering when braking and pulling it from my hands and now i seem to have developed a clunking noise when changing gear.

So far it has:
New track rod ends and inner tracks
new lower wishbone ball joints
lower polybushed engine mount
fully tracked using hunter system
new upper gearbox mount
new bearings at the rear, tightened up to 175nm etc
new nearside bearing

There is no play in the steering rack bushes, that's absolutely solid. The anti roll bar bushes are also solid, no movement there.

Tried wiggling the wishbones too and there isn't any play.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks a lot. car just feels like s**t and I can honestly say my girlfriends KA feels so much tighter going around the bends :(

re-check all the previous work carried out to double check all is ok would be the first thing imo

prob is the cost of whats replaced could be the cost of a specialist finding the problem straight away even if u gotta travel,must be a pain in the butt not finding the source of the issue

To be fair mate that video is s**t. The camera shakes more than the steering wheel. Steering vibrations could be down to a fucked shock, worn steering bushes, unbalanced wheel, s**t road surface. Check your bushes on your steering rack. Only a 5 min job if you have a extra set of hands.

I know, the video was a last ditch effort before arriving home haha

I've received some pure solid top mounts and replacement wishbone bushes to change over tomorrow. If it doesn't sort the problem at least i'll be refreshing the front end even more. Will update my findings :)

They didn't sort the issues out but have totally transformed the turn in, really happy with them.

I'm now starting to think that it's my offside wheel bearing that's giving me all this grief. The best symptoms I can give are, wheel shaking when driving at speed, pulling to the right when accelerating, twitchy wheel when driving along and when braking hard is pulls the wheel left and right.

I noticed the other day that there is slight play when holding the disc at 12.30 positions but I'm not sure if thats normal, as it's not excessive, just slight play.

I did change it three months ago with a cheap £12 eBay jobby so maybe that could be the culprit?

Can I be candid?

You're saying you don't have the money to give the car to someone to look at, yet you've pissed hundreds of pounds up that wall buying s**t you probably don't need. It's counter productive.

Also, have you have full laser alignment done? If not, do this next, as well as aligning the car, they'll identify any worn parts (and probably refuse to do the work until they're replaced if it'll affect the handling).

Yes but it's nice to know I'm refreshing all the suspension parts bit by bit regardless which is what I intend to do over the time of me owning the car. Worn track rod ends and inners were diagnosed at a specialist also.

To get those sort of symptoms, I'd expect that too be extremely evident in a wheel bearing.

Jack up both sides, check for play at 12 and 6 and 3 and 9, and spin and see how long it spins for.

If either of these elements are DRAMATICALLY different on one side, then yeah it could well be a wheel bearing.

Other thing is, when did it go on a hunter system?

Because you're changing top mounts etc, it'll need alignment again.

I'm not knocking the changing of all of these components, but it's just the lack of money comment didn't make sense to me is all.

MOTHER ****************** YESSSSSSSS!!

It is the wheel bearing on the nearside, the one that I changed before with a cheap one from eBay.

I just jacked the car up, wheels on and gave it a wiggle up and down. Very very sloppy and quite an actual audible knock when it hits back and forth. Checked the other side and not a single wobble whatsoever, absolutely solid. Really really happy that i've found it. Got my Dad outside to check it too and he just instantly went wheel bearing after giving it a shake.

Now to get a genuine Renault one!

Never had a wheel bearing knock before, but could be I suppose.

The knocking while changing gear and pulling away was always the dog bone mount I thought.

Found the source of my problems! Fingers crossed anyway



But basically I identified that the n/s bearing was totally gone when wobbling the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock positions, clonking loads and just really sloppy compared to the offside.

There is a lip on the bearing carrier. Picture doesn't really show it but running my finger along that shaft :)D) shows a big lip. I'm not exactly sure how long it's been like that. When I first got the car the bearing was loose so maybe tightening and loosening, tightening again has worn away some of that material.



The new bearing is still sat in my bedroom as I am just using the one that came with the replacement hub that I bought yesterday. I'm not sure whether to just run this one into the ground or replace it anyway seeing as though I have it here anyway.

The replacement bearing is on and i'm fairly certain I didn't hear a single clunk when changing gear but I only had a 1 minute drive to the shops.

Check engine mounts as the bushes will wear and cause the whole drovetrain and everything connected to move about
