Car running extremely rough :(

hi guys,

as usual il try and post all the information i have to try and get a correct diagnosis, my car is running really rough (spluttering) between tickover and 2000rpm... anything over 2000rpm the engine runs as normal :/

the weird thing is that it is an intermittent problem and is not regularly timed, (iv tried timing the difference between to see if it would help but it is on and off at random times), it started when i had my engine management light come on whilst returning from shrewsbury, on inspection the fault showed as: programming throttle body, this fault soon disappeared after cleaning the throttle body and changing the air filter (it had oil on... wtf?) i know that is really not healthy :/

problem being the car is still running rough on and off but there are no faults showing to help me identify it... best way to describe it is the juddering that you get when you turn a corner in 4th gear at low revs/speed while the car trys to stall but this problem is happening even when the car is sat still so must be something engine related or closely related :/

its really winding me up as i dont have the money to do something like replace the engine or get the head skimmed etc :/ but i really need to find out what the fault is before the car stops working altogether :/

any ideas will be appreciated guys :) (please no suggestions of selling the car, im fed up of those and the amount of money and time i would lose would be stupendous)

iv realised its similar to when you dont have the air mixture right on a motocross bike's carb, like either not enough air or not enough petrol getting to the spark plugs below 2000 revs... or a possible mis-fire and the spark plugs aren't sparking properly...

can someone help clarify? its driving me insane :(

i shall check the coilpack and sparks tomorrow :) its throwing me off any proper identification as its intermittent and doesn't do it on tickover or over 2000 revs :S cant think of anything that localised and randomly timed :/

Any joy with this? My flat mate is having the same symptoms with his 1.2.

Cheers,

Its sorted mate, I changed the HT leads, coilpack, and spark plugs and the cleaned out the throttle body and I believe it was either the spark plugs or HT lead causing the problem as it was misfiring at 1 :) hopefully mate it will just be a spark plug or HT leads for him mate :) check those first as those are the cheapest option :)
