Car warrenty on my V6...

  German Barge
A little bit cheesed off today...

As many of you know, have had the Mk1 V6 for about 2 weeks, done 1,000 miles in it since buying it lol, so currently on 12,200 or something like that.

Driving to work today, and common "emission light came on" and all of a sudden it sounded as rough as you like... Clio V5  - one of my coils has gone...

Thanks to TRW1, i have sourced a coil for it (thanks again mate), but... before all this i phoned up the dealer i bought it from, and they stated, misfires, consumables etc etc are not covered in my warrenty... does this sound like bull, he then went on to say how it only covers "serious problems i.e. engine failures, gearbox issues etc etc, not simple consumable things?

Its only a 4 month warrenty, but obviously having only owned the car 2 weeks, im a little pissed off, even though coil problems i have heard are only too common on the V6.

Any opinions welcome

p.s. renault want 4 hours labour to fit one of the coils!! EKKKKKK :nono:

Is it the 'pencil' type coils, or just standard one, beacause if its the pencil type one thats gone, if you dont replace each coil, you could blow your ECU!

The warranty on mine (RAC) did indeed cover coils, however when mine went they'd only pay to replace the one's that had actually failed. ClarkieV6 did it, and he said one had defo gone and the another was on the way out. The warranty company stumped up for these 2 and all associated labour. On his advice I decided to save inconvenience later on I'd pay to have the other 4 done, as there was little extra labour involved due to all the manifold having already been removed to get to the existing failed coils, really it just cost me £160 for the other 4 coils. Once one coil goes, the others tend to follow in close succession so it makes sense to get them all done while it's in.

I'd bypass the dealer and go straight to the underwriting insurers and file a claim with them. IF they don't agree to pay up, then I'd personally not bother getting Renault to change them. Any half-decent garage should be able to do it, and (depending where you are) then Carlton Garage in Exmouth (ClarkieV6's company) or SG Motorsports in Chippenham (Scott Glender) would be my recommendation from personal experience!

Good luck!

When mine went Chris I changed just the failed one and it ran fine for the next 18 months until I upgraded them all. You should have AA cover still or similar so if you have problems with Renault over the phone call out the AA man, let him find the problem though he won't have a spare on the truck as it's not a common coil, then mention that you might have a spare somewhere and he can pop it in.
In my case the AA man went to Renault, collected a coil and dropped it off to me the next day, all on warranty. It's easy to fit so you may have succeeded yourself already.

well, i popped it up to renault today... and its all fixed... back on the road :D

lets home there is no pattern with the other 5 any time soon...

i think if another one goes, ill pop it up to GDI or the likes, and get a new coil pack sorted on it...

many thanks for all help given..
