Car won't Start

Hi Guys.

I went to go to work this morning, and the car started first time without a problem.
I then had to go inside so I turned the car off and locked it.

Went back out a minute later and it wouldn't start, it was clicking/firing but it just wouldnt start.

Left it for a couple of minutes and i turn the ignition on and the Immobilsier Light goes out after a couple of seconds as it should, but when I turn the key to start the car there is nothing at all? no clicking.

Wipers, lights, Radio all work.

I'm stumped.

Any help is appreciated.

Battery is the most likely culprit i'm afraid. You got a set of jumpers or a jump pack?

Biggest problem causer at the minute are batteries (Second to frozen coolant casuing jumped timing belts... check your coolant people)

Yesterday, I had a 2.3 Zetec Galaxy come in that just wouldn't go. It would crank fine, diagnostics showed the ECM as recognising rotation but it still had no ignition however the injectors were still firing so properly flooded the cylinders. Pulled the plugs out, dried out the cylinders, coils checked out fine so cleaned the plugs up then refitted the battery and still nothing but flooding. Battery health check showed it as pretty healthy still with 12.45v (A little low but still good enough to crank the lump). Fitted a new battery and "Whomph", up she cracked with no fuss or drama and a nice 14.4v from the alternator.

Just had the Recovery company out, he tried jump starting it and it didn't work, he reckons it is the Starter Motor, he tried hitting it with a hammer but that didn't work either.

mine did this 3 days ago apart from i left it for about 4 hours. I just put it in 1st gear rocked the car back and forth a few times and it started perfectly and has done since. Little trick i learnt from my 106 gti lol that thing would fail to start about 3 times a week lol. Definately worth a go, worked for me.

Check the single white wire with a spade connector. This is the live feed to the solenoid and these are notorious for corrosion on the older Renaults... same problems as you and eventually the wire breaks off at the crimped joint.

Just thought I'd update this.

I had the Car booked in this morning at a local garage for a new starter motor to be fitted. I managed to push my car off the drive and got it bump started, I drove it down to the garage (the car sounded perfect and drove fine) and left it there, and I got a phonecall 2 hours later saying they had removed the starter motor and tested it and it works fine so have refitted it. They don't know why the car isn't starting but reckon it's electrical so have called an Auto Electrician and the earliest he can get to the garage is tommorow.

So just want to ask, does anyone have any ideas as to why my car isn't starting?

The Battery is ok, (all the lights, alarm, wipers, radio works and don't dim when i attempt to start the car), The starter motor is working fine according to the garage, and the immobiliser light illuminates solid for 2/3 seconds when the ignition is switched on and then goes out as it should do.

Anyone have any ideas?

Cheers

It will not be the Imob... trust me, i'm an autospark and it will most likely be a fault to the starter solenoid circuit as mentioned above... single white wire with a spade connector on it that actuates when you turn the key is the common culprit. Failing that, it'll be either the multiplug to from the relay to the starter or possibly the relay itself but 20 minutes with a DMM in the hands of someone that can use one will say what's gone wrong.

Thanks very much mate, that's a lot of help. The car is at the garage overnight and I have managed to book tomorrow off work, I will pop down to the garage whilst the Auto Electricain is there and tell him about the White wire with the spade connector as the mechanic on the end of the phone just tested the starter motor itself by the sounds of it. Will update you tommorow when I know more.
