Carbon Airbox

  Clio 172 & Fabia vRS
Well picked up my 03 172 in flame red yesterday and im loving it!!

one problem though is that it has got a Carbon Dynamic Airbox and there is no pipe going to it and its really loud.

If i put a Cold air feed pipe to it, will it make it any quieter?

thanks.

dont think it will make it quieter mate but it will be better for performance as engine will be getting cold air and not hot air from the engine bay

Carbon Dynamic is a BMC product....

http://www.bmcairfilters.com/infoCDA.asp

Had one on my Cupra, left a 2" gap between the end of the cold air feed pipe and the actual filter and my god was it loud! Connecting the pipe up properly made it a little quieter but i found most of the noise comes from air howling through the carbon tube as if you remove the tube it gets very quiet.

BMC, thats the one, just had a look under the bonnet and there doenst seem to be any space to put a cold feed on as its nearly thouching the plastic where the fan is. Is there anyway to get around this?

Thanks Again!

Ahh, a BMC. Sorry i got confused.

I didn't know they were that loud? Although i guess they're a fair whack louder than standard.

Yes

You could cut down the inlet pipe (pipe that the IK is fastened to) back.

Not sure if it can be done if your pipe is standard however but you could get a Hill Power silicone inlet elbow and cut it down a bit which will solve the problem of space.

as above mate, i fitted my bmc this weekend with a cut-down Hill power bend. Still a very tight fit but just about managed it. It should be a bit quieter with the cold air feed

id put a standard box back on with an itg panel filter

Why? I know thats what 99% of people on here say is best but does anyone have any proof? Induction is something i'll be looking at over the winter so am interested in some proof. Currently running a standard filter with a standard box thats been drilled on the cold side. Very loud indeed and the cars plenty quick for what it is.

I Was thinking about putting the standard one back on although i dont have it as the last person who owned the car chucked it out.

Anyone know where i can get a standard box from for a good price?

if not ill go for one of these samco bends.

Ta.

Try your local breakers, even online breakers maybe. I'm guessing if Renault still do them they would cost quite a bit. Maybe try putting up a wanted ad or even offer your BMC for swap for a stanard airbox + cash.

My mate had a BMC CDA on his car! he used to disconnect the cold air pipe for a laugh to make it a bit louder but it didnt go as well as it did with the pipe connected. Id find something something to put on it if i was you. Will make a difference and be quieter! :D
