The 3m stuff can take quite a bit of heat, so if you have a heat-gun use it. Start off on say 1/3rd power and see if that's enough. Don’t hold the gun too near the wrap, start off from say 8 inches and then either move the gun nearer or turn the heat up as you get used to working the wrap. Don’t be afraid to stretch it to wrap around curves and once on it can be pulled off and reapplied if you mess up. Best just to do literally a cm at a time. Will take you ages but its very satisfying once you finish a piece. (Have done my mirrors, side-strips and bullets, spoiler, roof and rear wiper surround.)
I have used 3M and I like it. Having said that, applying the wrap around some curves can be difficult. I have done my fog light covers, which were easy, but the wing mirrors frustrated the hell out of me. Trying to end up at a spot where the vinyl hasnt gathered is a bit of a pain. I nearly gave up halfway through but persevered and glad I did. A bonnet would be easy by comparison. A hairdryer is fine for heating btw and I found a coat or two of lacquer provides a better look.
Suppose its like everything - practice makes perfect

3M comes in 122cm wide rolls, from memory I needed about 165cm to do the roof and have enough spare to hold onto you need a few cm’s spare to fold/wrap around all the edges.
