Cars broken

  Renault Clio 182
Basically yesterday morning I heard a whine noise from the engine bay as I was going to work yesterday but the noise went on the way home.
This morning the noise was back however much louder so took it into Toomey Renault Southend and they have informed me that the alternator bearings have gone, they also informed me that they will need to remove the front bumper to find out the serial number as there are four varients, costing £90. Best case scenario £700 and worst £1000. I don't have that sort of money, what to do

Re: Cars F#@k3d

If your just replacing the alternator plus belt, if its a full fat one with aircon you need the 110amp one. Set me back approx £130 plus £100 surcharge which I got back when I give my old unit back.

Bumper off and headlight out, took approx 2 hours as we had to make a tool to hold the pulley in place.

Them prices are shocking, go else where.

Well for starters you havent done yourself any favours by taking your car into a main Renault dealer. Did you honestly think they would offer you an affordable/cheap solution?

Get a trailer, collect your car and take it to a specialist to see what they recommend. If you cant afford to fix it then strip it down and sell it.

A chap called Rick used to work for BB Tuning set up his own place years ago in Upminster. He's doing my gearbox and is decent on prices. I'm having my 182 recovered on a trailer to him tomorrow and get it back Saturday, if you want his number I can PM it to you
