Cat pipe

  DCi
Hello all,

I have had a my Clio 182 now for about 7 months and have loved every minute of driving it!
There has just been one recurring problem during this time and that is that there is a crack along the circumference of the cat pipe.

It is sort of under the rear clamp so it would seem all the gases are passing through the cat properly and i assume it would pass MOT, the only problem is as you accelerate the movement makes this kind of weird metallic sound which actually gets a bit annoying after a while, as im sure you can imagine!

As I have said I have not had the car long, and the car actually came with this problem so I took it to the dealer and they said they would weld the crack and send me on my way (I also went to a Renault dealer who quoted £700 for the replacement pipe and get this - £200 labour!!)

So we went with the weld which was all well and dandy until recently where the crack seems to have re-emerged.

I don't really want to get it welded again if the crack will just keep coming back so I am looking for a replacement cat pipe - but I don't want a decat - I'd like to keep it all legal

So in my searches here is what I have found: http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1265

Presumably this is road legal as all the de-cat pipes state warnings that they are not?
Does anyone know if they bolt straight onto the 182 or will my exhaust need any more modification?
I see the other version of the cat pipe on Ktec racing site says it does have to fit to the custom exhaust - now the question would be - what is the gain from the custom exhaust - is there a worthwhile performance difference? (especially considering I dont want a decat would this be the only way i will gain through my exhaust?) or is it just going to make my car more noisy?

So really what I am asking is - as I am in no urgent rush to change this cat pipe would it be worth saving the rest of the money to do the whole exhaust?

I presume also I would need a new clamp set as the bolts are probably rusty on the current exhaust clamp?

I've never done any work on my car like this before but I've tried to do my research first to make sure I've covered everything!

Any advice or experience would be most welcomed

and sorry this turned out a bit longer than I expected!
