cat question

  silver 182
have had an annoying rattle from under car past couple of days, took it to an ATS who say cats gone which it did make a nasty rattle when he tapped it, he then tells me that to replace cat i will have to replace the whole middle section and back boxes as it is all one piece, its a 182 btw.

my question is are they trying to have me on on is he telling the truth, can the cat just not be replaced?

thanks

He's lying, the cat can just be replaced.

Easy job too as its only a short piece :)

As for the price of a cat, well, I wouldn't want to buy one new

i've heard a rumor that a new cat for a 182 is knocking on for £2K now!!!

182 cat's RARELY fail, go see a specialist rather than a monkey at ATS

i have been told by renault that my cat on my 182 has started to break down, and told me £1985 for a new one???? must be made of pure gold lol. its a joke, as fred said to me get a second opinion. as for the exhaust system being one piece thats b****cks. just trying to rob you,

personally i would take it to a mot station and get the gas analyser on there to see if the cat is showing up bad readings

cheers guy, im going to another garage tomorrow see what they say, lets say it has gone and i went after market cat back exhaust and sports cat, can anyone recommend a setup where there isnt a massive difference in noise level?

I'd never fit a genuine replacement cat on a 182. A sport cat (if you dont want a de-cat) is roughly £300 so a far more economical option than renault.

oh and I've seen plenty of 182 cats break down, they seem far more common than 172s for it
