Cat replacing

  clio
Hi,

I have just been told that the cat needs replacing on my gf's clio sport 172.

Is it an easy job? I have searched and can't find a guide so i imagine it must be straightforward. Anyone got any pointers or a short list of instructions?

Where is the best place to get the part, heard renault ones are expensive, just want a standard or sport one, not interested in decating.

Cheers

Why does it need replacing? They are silly money from renault, i'd look on ebay or try on here?

just had the front exhaust bolts and gasket replaced... charged 4 hours labour! But that's another matter (did hear it's a pain in the bum) they told me that the cat had collapsed inside and that it needs replacing.

Is it easy to do?

If they charged you for hours for that (10 min job) then i'd be going somewhere else!

If it's not failing on emissions and running fine personally i'd leave it, it won't do any damage.

i havent done it myself however i had replaced my center section and the bolts to the cat where a nightmare with corrosion - ended up cutting them off! you should be ok if they have been replaced however, i have heard the top bolts (cat to downpipe) are a pain!

Which garage was that? I'd like to pop them on my blacklist.

Opps yeah, misread, forgot the 172 cat reaches hi up inside the car, but still 4 hours seams a lot.

^its a 1hour job for a pro, 2hours for a muppet with no arms, f**k knows why/how they charged you 4hours!

it's a s**t job, but 4 hours!!!!!!!!! no way!!!!

Yep can't believe it but have paid it, it hurt too...

Might leave the cat then, can it do any damage to the exhaust system if I leave it? If not then think I'll leave it till the mot if it fails on emissions then I'll get it done :) thanks for the advice guys.

Must say didn't fancy those exhaust bolts I don't have a pit looked an awkward job for me, could feel the bolts had gone but tricky to get to!
