CD display backlight issue?!

Bought a 172 PH2 on Wednesday and took it out at night for the first time last night but I couldn't see the digital display that show's CD information, clock, outside temperature etc. Should this light up, and if so, how do I go about fixing this irritating glitch!?

Does the car have the standard headunit?

It should light up with the clock and temp regardless of the HU.
it has 2 or 3 small wedge filament lamps behind the display which have probably blown. Dash top off to replace them I'm afraid!

It does have the standard head unit yes, but if that makes no difference and I have to lift off the top of the dash, how big a job is that!? I'm shite when it comes to electrics! Renault garage job?
