Changing a Dipped Beam Light Bulb, 2003 Clio

My passenger side dipped beam bulb isn't working, I'm going to buy a replacement this weekend, but rather than paying Halfords or someone to fit it for me, I'm sure it can't be that difficult to change myself.

Has anyone done this themselves before, or can anyone give me any advice on the best way to go about it?

Sorry if this is a repeated post, but having had a quick look around, I can't seem to find anything here already.

From memory...
...Rubber seal off, pull back clip, remove bulb, replace bulb, replace clip then replace seal. Passenger side should be easier as the a/c compressor is on the other side...I think.

re the question, if they are standard headlights it is very easy, but it they are Xenon (blue/purple light) then it is a little more difficult.

Hey, welcome to the forums! I work at halfords so have to do this guff most of the day

If its Xenons its a pain in the arse! However standard bulbs on the MK2PH2 are fairly easy (compared to most cars)

The bulb is plugged into a piece of plastic, then twisted into position. So all you need to do is find the back of the bulb, and twist it out, the bulb then pops out. Usually for the car you will need a 477 type bulb. You do the reverse to get it in (Line it up and twist round to lock the bulb into the back of the headlight) Although putting it back in is a pain in the arse!

If you have a Ph1 with the normal headlights its simples, cover off, clip off, pull bulb.. done, with the dual optics its pretty easy also, unplug, twist bulb out and reverse to put back in.. if you have a 172 sport its a pain, passenger side harbours the cold air feed to the air box and is rather fiddly but doable, same principle applies unplug, twist and reverse.. wear rubber gloves, saves your hands from scraps and dirt!

My Advice is buy the right bulb first time aswell, I sat in Halfords with enough bulbs to light a xmas tree when I did mine

Hi Abi, welcome to the forum. I hope this hasn't offended you. x

With regards to your issue, it should all become clear when you try and replace it. There is a big round black cap on the rear of the headlight that just pulls off, and the bulbs is just clipped in place, and has a connector on it. Pull the clip across out out, and the bulb will come free, then you can remove the connector, and put the new one in.

Try not to touch the new bulb's glass with your hands.
