changing battery in key

when changing my battery in my key which im due to do as the central locking sometimes works, then sometimes doesnt, and wen it does, i have to be real close to the car, is there some sort of special way of doing this?

Dont wanna change it to find it still doesnt work because i had to press the key down 1000's of times standing on 1 leg, and patting my head..

172s have crap range compared to 182s anyway I think

remove any keyrings etc.

Stick a small screw driver into the hole and twist in opposite directions.
