Changing gear knob

Been wanting to change the gear stick knob for a long time as it's made of some s**t crumbly stuff and looks naff, I've read you can hack away at it to get it off, so does anyone know the diameter or the stick to put an aftermarket on?

I've heard it's a messy old job, but so be it, the old one looked horrendous until I changed the insert

molegrips and twist. Hoover bits of ground plastic up. I fitted a richbrook aluminum one as I don't like the standard knob.

Quaife style, I just bought a black one. Don't get one with the bolt in the top like your pic though.

I fitted mine onto a scenic shifter so unsure if the shaft sizes are the same. I just got a 13mm drill piece and hand drilled it into it to make it bigger, fits on nice and snug.

sorry to change the subject and ressurect an old thread but how did you get the sticky rubber coating off the plastics to paint them?

Buy none sport ones. They're not sticky.

Yep bought non sport ones.

Quaife knobs are pretty cool, but they're all threaded and have no option for reverse selector.
