Changing the filter without changing the oil, is like changing your pants and not whiping your ass...

To be honest, people that have as little clue about cars as that shoudlnt be allowed ot work on them, can be VERY damgerioius if you do the wrong thing

I ask because on my mates 1.2 corsa the garage said you can take the filter off before draining the oil. So i tried it and it worked. I just wondered if it was same on the clio. I know im going to get slated for asking, but i have 3 people who ask me to service there cars regular and never complained once. My clio has almost 5k on it and i want to change the oil. Thanks

Ah right...You can, as far as I know, take the filter off either before or after you remove the plug of sump.

I dont see then point in changing the filter and not the oil. The oil is more important.

You could chnage the filter on a 182 and keep most of the oil if when you remove the oil filter you just let all the oil above the filter drop out and then top it tup with whats probably 1.5 liters.

Maximum loss would be what comes out of the filter...if the engine is hot, more will have recently been circulated and thusly, more liable to oil coming out of the filter when you remove it.

Ive never seen more than 0.5l including a full filter exit a 182 engine...And thats being generous!

Getting your arm down to the filter is the most difficult bit...then un-doing it without the specific renault tool.

But anyway, hes explained himself properly now so we can all sleep at night...:p
