Changing to cup shocks?

I'm just really struggling to see why the driveshafts difference is going to prevent fitting 172 cup shocks to a non cup 172?

It's not, half of my 172s have had 172 cup shocks on and none of them have started as cups.

Theres a confusion there! 172 driveshafts will stop you fitting 182 cup shocks as you would also need 182 cup hubs which take 182 cup driveshafts
