Now I'm not known for my love of the Dell brand, i've never held back but for the spec of this and the price even I have bought one for my dad as he needs a new laptop, absolute bargain, can even add a 256 mb 8600 for another £117 I think.

LOL, this is the frist dell product i have ever purchased, i nearly bought that external hdd when they made that error on the price so this is a big step for me, i just think it is a steal for the spec, how bad could it be............

I used to run a latitude D600 flaptop @ my last company before I moved to where I am now (HP only)

Never had a problem with it, and the other laptops/desktops were always pretty damned good, seems to me that it was the servers that let the side down between about 2003-2006 that's put me off the Dell brand (maybe unfairly).

Our Dell acct mgr was speaking with me on Weds this week as it happens, asking why I hadn't bought a Dell server in so long, and he agreed that they'd gone a bit s**t until the last 18 months or so but are on the up now (he'd moved in from HP)

i wouldn't really, you are right, i'll just stick with the one for my dad, hes got one of my old sony's at the mo from about 7 years ago, its a 900mhz with 256mb ram and takes about 10 minutes to boot so he needs an upgrade.

He used to spend all night in the computer room and my mum used to complain so she loved it when i gave him my old laptop as he now stays in the lounge with her to browse. But every time i see it i think how frustrating it was the last time i used it, how slow it was etc.

Exactly what I was thinking. Tried to justify it for a few minutes but realised I don't actually need one, money can go in my D300 fund instead.

well, its turned up and i must say i am highly impressed, the screen is good (not quite as good as a sony but then mine was £1800), it has everything needed on it from 4 USB's, firewire, card slots here there and everywhere etc.

So a big thumbs up, only have 1 day to buy this if you were thinking of getting it, but I wouldn't definitely buy one if i was in the market of a cheap laptop as i can't fault it!
