Cheap tyres for track?

  Ph2 Clio 172
What would people suggest as cheap 195/50/15 tyres for track use, but also some road use as they will be my only set of wheels?

So far I'm looking at:

T1R's - Cheap, but seem to be getting more expensive as stock drys up. I had a set of 16's on at Bedford and the side walls were soft as hell.
Hankook V12s - More expensive than the Toyo's, but aparently a much better tyre.
Parada Spec 2's - a mate has them on his 182 and loves them (16"). They look like they would have much more dry grip due to a large surface area.

Any other suggestions? Wouldn't want to go much more expensive than the Paradas, its only for casual track use (i.e. no R888 suggestions).

you would do alot worse than giving the Federal RSR a try.

the are getting very good reviews for road and track, and are alot cheaper than many of the other alternatives ;)

Was about to suggest those (I have some and rate them) - but think they would wear pretty quick on the road. 6.5mm tread depth from new and soft 'R' compound...

There were a lot of RSRs piled up at Bedford on Satruday from the mobile tyre fitter guy. Looked nice, but a bit expensive (~£75)

I had (in 15's) RSR's on the front and Prada 2's on the rear and the difference in grip was huge....by the time the rear became stable the fronts were starting to go off. I was really impressed by the federals tbh...wore quite well considering the battering they got

Extreme cornering can cause oil starvation in engines without a baffled sump. Its not going to be an issue in a Clio, it was more of a flippant reply to a recommendation for R888s after specifically saying I didn't want recommendations for R888s.

If the T1R's werent creaping up in price and becoming rare I would just munch through them. But as they are getting nearer the prices of other better tyres it makes things more complicated. Has anyone taken V12's on track?

T1Rs all day long. Squidgy sidewalls let you feel what's going on, and unless you're Tony Hunter, the loss of accuracy when pointing it at an apex isn't an issue.

My 16" sidewalls squidged so much I got the edge of the rim to touch the ground! And that was at 36psi hot!

But like I said, I would have just gone T1R's, but they are getting more expensive and rarer.

I know what you meant, but it isn't a problem in a Clio.

But yeah, go with T1R's still. You don't want to skimp on them that much.

I wont need (and cant afford) to replace the tyres on my 15's untill my next trackday in a few months time. I expect T1Rs will be like hens teeth by then :(

Any suggestions other than T1Rs? Or should I just order 8 on a credit card and hope they appreciate :)

  53 Clio's & counting
Id take a punt at the Yoko's - i buy them for £45 a corner - pretty cheap really, thats what il be buying next, not the best but still a great tyre

Yea they sound great as a road tyre, but on a track they would suffer.

Think I'm going to have to mull it over while I wait for my next trackday.
