Cheapest performance mod for me to do?

  S1 16v 106 Rallye
All I currently have is a backbox and not a lot of money. My clio is a 1992 and has the carb. Would it be possible for me to fit a bigger carb/jet up my carb? Or would it be cheaper and make more sense to buy the rest of the exhaust or possibly a less retricting manifold? Any ideas?

Cheers

all petrol cat cars are fuel injected, so carb = no cat.

cheapest performance mod is weight reduction - improves acceleration, braking and economy

without 'stripping' car, you can lose all excess weight from boot, glove box, spare wheel, back seat cushions etc. and save maybe 50kg or equiv. gaining at least 5 bhp!

  ST on the way...
An open ITG filter should help nicely :)

Had one on my old Renault 5 and it made quite a differnce :)

Do you know which carb it is?

If it's the standard 60bhp 1.4 you could replace the carb with a Twin Choke Weber which should see a good 12bhp increase and adding the filter above maybe a further 4-5 :)

Stripping is the best form of increasing power/weight ratio.

A stripped rear and some light weight buckets would see a bit of a diffrence.

Then removing carpets and excess metal. (if you want to go that far?)

Engine transplants if you can afford the insurance will allow.

The 1.2 is good for 60 bhp. The 1.4 is good for 80 (carb) and 75 (injection) as far as i've read from quite a few sites/heard from mechanics. Also beat a corsa SXI the other day which kick 80.

The carbs just a standard webber. How does a twin choke webber work and where can I pick one up? Also, what does the open ITG filter look/sound like?

Again, thanks for the help!

Cheers, but the thing is I could still do with keeping it pretty practical! As much as i'd like to strip out the rear seats and get some nice buckets and harneses, I do actually need the back seats and boot space for when me and my mates go out/out for a drive or if I have to drop siblings to and from school etc. Also, holidays :/

In terms of weight loss i've removed the spair wheel and bracket since I have 15's on now anyway and just stuck a puncture repair foam expanding can thing in my boot incase I get questioned by police etc. That's about it really! :p

Thanks for the help.

Got some! Sorry forgot to mention. Those bosh ones with the dips in the ends that spark from each side!

  Shed.
Strip your car mate. at the least, remove the spare wheel. Get a new filter or maybe even an induction kit, and get a full exhaust system.
