Check auto gearbox fault, sporadic.



  Clio Mk3 1.2 TCE
Hi guys, so 4 months ago I bought a 2015 mk4 Clio GT auto. The car was perfect in every way until the last week or so where it will randomly throw up the “check auto gearbox” message. When this happens it loses the odd gears 1,3,5 but I can still drive in 2,4,6,R. I can shift through the gears with the paddles with slight challenge but it will do it. If I pull over and switch it off for a few minutes then the problem will go away.

I have read the codes at work and what I’m getting is “Clutch 1 Motor Circuit,General Electrical Failure” as well as a few battery related short circuit codes. From my own research I’ve seen people recommend changing the battery or even the TCM but that second option is a lot of money from what I’m aware of and not something that is currently affordable to me.

From what I’ve seen almost everyone with the same issue loses 2,4,6,R whereas I have the opposite issue and seem to lose 1,3,5.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Definitely change the battery first. If that doesn’t fix it I’m afraid you’re in for a new TCM.

Hi,
I am a new member that owns a 2015 Monaco GP & has done so from new. (100k on clock)
I am about to replace the TCM with a Chinese rebuild which is preprogrammed for the model & VIN.
($1100 vs $4750 ex Renault)
I have located a company in WA that can perform the linking of the new unit.

Before proceeding - I am hoping that there is somebody within this forum that can clearly identify the full process that I should be following for installing the new unit.
i.e. what steps will I need to follow.
I have read various forums & contributions thereof over the past couple of days.
Some mention recalibration of clutch & others claim straight up operation.
Can anybody assist?

I don’t want to burst your bubble but everyone I know who’s bought a Chinese unit has not had a good experience with them despite apparently being the correct part 🤔

@Adey. Is your man to talk to. He’s fitted a chinesium TCM iirc!

I did indeed. Though i haven't condemned it yet

Initially on fitting it seemed to have the incorrect software and wouldn't work with the car. I have since pulled the data from it and re flashed the correct "RS" data to it, I just need a dry few days and some spare time to try it.

so could still be ok......

But really, for the time being i wouldn't buy one unless you have the means to bench flash the TCU's. Not many people can do it and most, i don't think would attempt it.

Is this where the info from the old is loaded onto the new?
