chip for 172

  TDI tyre shreader
172, and my point is, what is the point in spending anything ranging from 400-600(???) for a couple of BHP if that? spending money on tuning a NA car for the road is daft, a turbo car on the other hand makes more sense. I know you'll prob all argue this point but think about how much you spend for such a little return in actual power

Power schmower. Driveability is where it's at.

indeed, and the added revline to 7800 helps, it makes a good difference, get the group n ecu re flash....

I worked it out that the car cost me approx £50 per horse, so i think buying a chip that can add potentially 10 bhp or more, for £500 is good sense.
I am not an expert, but with exhaust, filter etc...with properly mapped chip, can work out exactly the same price per bhp as the original car.
This is how I justify it anyway. As soon as I can get insured with mods I'm gonna be chucking all my spare cash at my car.

And with depreciation and all that, getting a faster car is not a cheap option when I already have a fast car.

Wasn't there a group buy from GDI a while ago, is that still available?

Lagerlout is right, its not about power, its about the way the power is delivered. Power and torque curves are much more important than peak figures. Has anyone ever closely compared a group N'd 172 to a standard one?

Fair point. I'm ****, so tuition would probably do me the world of good.

Another 40bhp wouldn't do any harm mind. lol.

Seriosly though, peak power gains is fine for bragging rights in the pub, but I'd rather fork out £500 and get a much more linear, flatter torque curve with a bit more midrange than 10 unuseable horsepower.

group buy still on for the smt

£600 reduced to £500 + vat fully mapped and fitted.... to suit the specific car... and yes it improves drivability
