Cisco ?

  Shed.
Well the plan is to go do the ccna, then the ccnp. i might do some of the microsoft quals as well, voip n some others.

If i manage to complete and pass both, are the jobs open to me only with cisco, or just about any other company as well. ?

been speaking to someone who is a friend of my mum's, i dont think hes done it, but hes on 100k a year, living in tokyo now, doign some sort of IT s**t. lucky bagga lol. he says that once ive done it ill be able to get a contract with cisco doing a number of things, with a 3 year contract at 30k a year.

I presume its 3 years unless i resit the ccnp again, in which case it might get extended.

LOL I love your posts.

YOU WONT be earning 30K a year or more straight out of that without some experience in a real environment.

Time to wake up me thinks. Also do you know how much these Qualifications cost?

lol, if it was that simple to earn £30k, dont you think everyone would do it?

Cisco cert's are important but you won't get anywhere near 30k until you have at least 3 years experience under your belt. The best strategy to succeed is get a basic helpdesk job in a decent size organisation with a large data network. The company should promote support for employees who want to progress and you should use this to get your foot in the door of the network arena. During this time you need to pass CCNA, work towards CCNP and then after 3 years move to a new company in a more senior role with a salary close or above what you're aiming for.

I earn 45k plus callout and overtime and I'm a CCNP working for a large ISP in the UK. I have seven years experience in internetworking at an ISP level. Hopefully that should give you an idea on what's ahead of you.

I was going to say try and get your foot in the door at Helpdesk level.

Earn while you learn and have someone pay for your Quals

CCNA/Cisco is some of the most mind numbingly boring stuff i have ever seen. A friend of mine is very academic and intelligent and he failed, makes me realise i could never do that.

You don't have to have lots of IT qualifications to have a £30k job in IT, employers will look at experience first.

but the question is why would you want to work in IT its the most mind numbing job i can think of !

Why is IT mind numbing? That's a bit of a general statement.

I would hardly call working with technology and the internet a mind numbing job. Try doing a few Cisco or Juniper certificates! lol

lol. money. besides i dont mind compies.

Has anyone done it though ?

I've done it mate and if you need any help or documents drop me a message.

Just ignore the p-ss takers and bitchy people who roam this website. They probably know no more than you.

It's not an easy path to take, but it has huge rewards and fair play to you if you are going to give it a go.

I can. :)

Beware of these courses. Yes the CCNA is a good course however dont think your going to do the course and then jump straight into a high paying job, experience counts for everythings. Better starting off as a junior then working your way up.

There is nothing more annoying than these silly adverts on tv! Would you like a job in IT? We can sell you a course for a few grand and even guarantee you a job at the end of it... B******S.

I got stitched up over a MCSE course. Work paying for it. Guaranteed pass. It was a load of rubbish, total con. I did 3 of the 7 exams and gave up, I was enjoying it but it was taking up my whole life. Work 9-5 then study 7-10/11/12/1. No thanks! If my work had gave me a year off I might have competed it.

YOu evidently HAVENT seen his posts before about jobs have you? Otherwise you would see why we say this!!!!

I wouldn't pay for a CCNA course, there are lots of self paced training books out there to get you started. You might also be able to pick up some cheap kit on eBay.

same as me lol

try implimenting ITIL when there is only you lol

LOL ITIL on your own. That is impossible. Poor little cnut. No wonder you spend so much time on here ;)

i mean the theory of itil is fine to a point but alot of it is just common sense that they feel they have to give a name too Yes we need a definitive software library but does it have to be called that cant we just have a box full of cd's lol as for the hardware store cant we just have a cupboard with the bets in please !

So what if I havn't seen whatever it is you're talking about, give a t-ss. Unlike some people on here I have more interesting things to do in my life than sit on this site all day bitching...I'd rather do my interesting job, drive a nice car home and be with my lovely girlfriend...

Why is IT mind numbing? I'm still wondering why that isn't a general statement.

I'm an IT manager for an insurance broker, I do everything from technical support, to installing new offices, mobile phones, etc, the technology isn't t that demanding.

I finished uni, went to work in Mallorca, setup a small companies IT, sorted out the IT in a airline @ cancun then when to work for an IT support company.

Then went to work for an IT consultancy company on a below average wage, was there for over a year, learnt lots ad had an excellent time.

I have no Microsoft qualifications or Cisco ones, only my HND and Degree.

Now I am in london for the Insurance broker company.

The job is very demanding and definately don't find the job boring or mind numbing.

If you're bored of doing your job as you know it inside out and it does not interest you any more, you're without a doubt in your comfort zone and should definately move.

I'm 24 and work very hard.

If people want to do IT, they should not be put off with peoples comments.

All the best mate.

Good Luck with it all is all I am going to say.

I was in IT for over 4 and a half years and studied a computing related qualification for 2 years before that. Last month I decided to get out of IT and it was the best thing I ever did. Ok, a lot of my job involved dealing with end users and visiting customers on site but I know for a fact I would have got bored even if I was just in some random boring office type role where I fix servers etc all day.
But if you enjoy it then fair play.

Avoiding the boring subject which MCBUNNY brought up.

The lad was sacked from morrisons or somewhere for stealing, he then decides he wants to be a copper earning 30K a year, then 2 weeks later decides he wanted to be a sales man or something and could earn 30K odd straight away, now he decides he wants to spend a few months doing CISCO and come out earning 30K. He has no real interest it seems in what he wants to be he just wants a monster salary

THAT is why people are not willing to help as he will change his mind and has no want to do it, he just thinks he can earn ££££££££

If you have the personality, are genuine, have common sense, smart, have people skills, you can achieve anything you want (within reason and time)

Stick at something and work hard, yes, there are those lucky people who earn ££££ but those are far and few between or have many, many years of experience and are very specialised.
