Cleaning Throttle Body

  Renault Clio Dynamique 02
I'm having a problem with my 2002 1.2 Clio, which many others seem to have, and the first approach to solving it seems to be cleaning the throttle body.

I phoned up Renault to see what they would charge me to clean it, and they quoted me £172.72! To me, this is excessive. I have a Haynes manual so I can see how to do it, I'm just a little worried about making a mistake and being without my car for some time. I've changed air filters and done some other minor work, but this seems more difficult.

Guess my question is, anyone got any tips or dos/don'ts when cleaning throttle bodies? Any guides?

Going to read through the Haynes manual again tonight and maybe try tomorrow...

Thanks in advance

Don't touch the actual butterlfy itself. Else you run the risk of the throttle body being junked.

Use some carb cleaner and tissue to clan the areas.

Make sure you've got a decent socket set (You'll need an E8 socket, female torx socket) Stick to the manual and take your time, remember not to wrench any pipes, or pull any wires. Clean it well but don't got mad with the spray.

Check it over a few times before you start it again don't rush

Your has doesn't have an electric throttle body most lille as more phase 1's don't. Its the electric bodies which are the problem.

There Ok the 1.2's budget price engine plus they keep dealerships in warently work. ALso they keep the people who right tech notes in business.
