Gonna have a go at this on the weekend, what sorta stuff shall i use to clean it? also, shall i use some WD40 on it to grease it up when im done?

is there anything i should look out for - ie - oil on the inside, dirt etc?

Sweet, trying to cue a slight missfire / lumpy idle when warm! next port of call after the TB is seeing if i can clean the TDC sensor, if it can be cleaned :|

also, did you remove the sensor from above the throttle pedal? ive read that removing this and cleaning the ports can help with a funny idle

Carb/throttle body/brake cleaner will all work.

Sensor and pedal come off as a complete unit.

Is that the thin pipe that comes off the air flow pipe from the air box, and goes behind the block? lol

Yes.

As what JackJack said Carb/brake cleaner to clean it. WD40 even when wiped away will leave a film for crap to stick too

  DON'T SEND ME PM'S!!
clean with brake cleaner, then grease the spindle ends. If you dont, the bushes the spindle sits in dry out

I cleaned mine this week, it was fairly dirty but this is how it looked after a bit of wd40 and elbow grease

Nice to know considering I was gonna do mine on Sunday. How long did it take in total? I have cleaned mine just by taking air pipe off, with carb cleaner, and it made quite a difference, but always wondered whether taking the whole thing off would be even better.

just took the air feed off, unplugged the switch from the bottom of the TB, un-screwed the 2 bolts at the bottom with a 10mm torque rench bit, then did the top two, then it comes straight off. then use the carb cleaner and jobs done :) mine wasnt that dirty to be fair. car sounds nuts when you rev it with the air feed de-tached though :p
