Clifford Alarms

  182 has now gone!
Hello,

Been looking at getting a Clifford Alarm.. My central locking has broke and Renault want over £400 to fix it. So been looking into other ways round this, and I can get a Clifford Alarm for cheaper. Which should hopefully lower my insurance a bit as well.

Been looking at the Concept 650 Mark 2.
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on these alarms?? or if there are any other brands which are better/to stay away from??

Thanks. :)

all depends on the installer bud.
Good friend of mine is a registered Clifford installer and he spent a good 8/9 hours on my clio making sure everything was all working properly.
Cliffords are good as they offer alot of options, toad are very good if you want a simple alarm.
Obviously with clifford you have the extras like blackjax, customisable siren tones and such like

I had a Clifford on my last car and it was fitted really well, had no problems at all with it. But I know people who have had one who had nothing but trouble with them, they can be a bit annoying sometimes. I had the proximity sensors on it so everytime someone got close to it they went off, can be quite irritating! But there were lots of extras that can be added on.

My misses has a clifford concept and its bloody annoying, had to turn down all the sensors as just cars driving past set it off! was about ready to rip it out until i found the adjusters lol and how annoying is the beep when you open and close!! just one big GHEY alarm.....

I've got a clifford on mine remember claire, whilst waiting to get off the ferry in liverpool ;). Always nice to know that you've got one of the best alarms looking after your car and you know if its your car alarm going off by the tone lol. As others have said though it depends on the installer.

Oh yes I remember your alarm Jams, plenty of times in the IOM we heard that!!! lol ;) (I forgot it was a Clifford one)

Think I will prob go for it.. The company fitting it are insurance approved and have a good reputation. They said it only takes a few hours to fit the alarm but they prefer to have the car all day. They park it outside the workshop to see if the alarm goes off at anytime for no reason, etc.. to see if it needs tweeking.

I used to have a clifford alarm on my mk1 and had nothing but problems with it, not sure of the model but think it was pretty bog standard however it randomly went off, keys needed re coding 4 times (everytime i had to do this i was either in college car park or works so looked like a nob!) , was just a ball ache really.

most of the problems tended to be with the older models (before the concept 650 mk1 came out) this was due to the electronics in the alarm being made by third party companies (and not always the same company) since Directed Electronics have bought clifford the internals have all been made by them, and so the quality in general has improved no end.
Just make sure to put the blackjax code in when you start the car!!
Also, any idea what sensors you are going for? sonics, dual zone prox, tilt/motion, glass break etc.

Think I will just be going for the sonics.. Not too fussed about the glass and tilt motion. The prox sounds a good idea but dont think I could put up with it beeping all the time someone walked past it, specially at work! But least I can always add these on a a later date if I wanted too.
