I had a Toad Ai606 with remote start, this particular one was legal because it started the engine then locked the doors a second later. The issue with the Clifford (or so I was told) is that the doors don't lock afterwards, meaning anyone can get in and drive off (I know the engine will cut out blah blah.

IIRC I read (when Intellistart was first launched) that the car's alarm stays armed and the doors locked. Once you manage to access the car (via the fob or by breaking in) you need to put the key into the ignition & then do a sequence on the pedals to be able to drive away otherwise it cuts the engine?

The Clifford alarm my old man had on his Integrale just started the engine, and then you had to unlock the car separately.

Not sure then, my mate had a Clifford though and the doors didn't lock and if you could get past the steering lock, you could drive it for 2 minutes (apparently!) until the engine cut out! Not sure if that was Intellistart though, it was a few years ago now.

its illegal on a public highway , but its ok , because they got round the law which would let you do it on private property by making it an offence after 2002 to leave a vehicle idling anywhere under new anti pollution laws .

its one of the reasons models of car which come as autostart in other countries as standard have it removed for the uk (many volvo's for one)

Remote start is so common in the usa its unreal , most people don't realise their hire car can do it as its often disabled in the dash menu's you just enable it ................

the reason it isn't here is due to legal issues
