Climate on Clio 200

I have a 59 Clio sport it's gt climate over air con .
Can someone advise me plz ,

When I select 20 dgs and auto the ac does not come on but when I press the ac button it does but goes into manual mode .
If temp is lowered to say 15 ac comes on when in auto mode .Is there a way of keeping the ac on with higher temp and in auto mode

Reason being -- like to leave it in auto and with the cold damp/ wet mornings now the windows steaming up I'm having to switch to manual to gt ac to come on to clear condisation.

Any ideas

I normally just press the windscreen button which brings the air con on automatically to demist

I agree , I have to as well but it's strange i can't get it to when it's on auto , never mind me just being me
