CLIO’s HANDLE!!! Sideways!!!!!!!!!

  H22A7 Accord Type R

Just had the BEST and WORST time in the Motor!!!! Up for a blast up the moors, bit damp, but i thought id press on, give myself a little buzz........remind myself im still alive etc.......

Nice and damp, car now lowered with 195/50 Toyo Proxes all round........handling mint, razor turn in, nice and communicative etc etc......making nice progress through some sweeping bends........and i come to my favourite that i have drifted round before in the dry.........a long swooping right hander!!! 3rd gear, must have been about 60mph, damp, gets near to the apex, lifts off and turns in......WEEEEEEEE.........SHHHHHIT......lol, I had just been Driving a Clio V6 on GT3 before i went out lol.......so a little opposite lock (too much as i always do) and it was back round, but was wanting to snap other way.....(one day i will learn no to over-correct?!), but it thankfully straightened up, i had my foot ready to nail the throttle, but always feel like thats the wrong thing to do......instinct i guess!! Anyways, it wasnt the neatest slide, but sh*t was it sideways, in the wet at 60mph!!!

So, the Toyos r amasing in the wet for grip, but beware, once the grip is gone, its going lol! Lowering springs will have caused it to snap a little more, thankfully i only have soggy GAY 40mm Apex......or i wud have been in the grass lol (mega stiff 60mms ;))

Best bit was the Nova driver coming up the straight......must have had a mint view of the OBC mobile sideways!!!! Shuda seen the look on his face when he passed me lol!!! he seen it all happen from bout 300yards down the road! I then proceeded to Slow down, turn the tunes up and potter home!!!

BRILLIANT FUN!!!! But bloody scary!!! Clios are fun to drive!!!!! and Brilliantly adjustable, and hey, even if you make an arse of it, it does its best to get you out of the sh*te!!!!! And hey, i didnt Hit the brakes, so my talents must be growing!!!!!!! MAD MAD MAD blast!!!! hehe, im sure a lot of you know the buzzing feeling!!! Just to top it off, came off a roundabout on way home and lifted off a little on the exit, just a little slide out, but thats the side im used to sliding out lol!!!!!! Cheers all.........Rob  :D  :D

A good handling car it may be, but it sounds like you had a close shave mate! Remember that the V6 is RWD too...

hehe how many of us would admit they have decided to go for a burn after a gt3 session and its all gets a bit silly in terms of how fast you go and how fast you attempt to get round bends, roundabouts, traffic islands etc

i know i have, LOL

exactly..........ohhhhhhh........the calm after the storm!!!! lol just lookin at the car sat in the drive........ahhhhh lol

my front wheel drive went sideways, hit a little hump while going into a roundabout, the backend went then! didnt mean it to was completely dry, so it screached and back end was skipping! thought i was going to end up in the pedestrian sub way!

it was fun Paddy..........ha, says the man with the 172!!!!!! How u find the Toyos in the Rain Paddy??? Grip like f**k.......but dont lift off mid bend hehehe

I had a similar experience in my Toyota MR2 once... hit the throttle a bit hard, in the wet, coming off of a roundabout onto a dual carriageway.... the car wasnt quite straight and the turbo kicked in..... I ended up doing a real tank slapper.... I didnt hit the brakes at all but every time I tried to feed the power on it ended up completley snapping back the other way... I must have fish tailed 4 times... before it was under control... I wasnt really going that quick either...

Hehe When I first bought my Valver I was driving back. b*****d had a different tyre on every Corner!! Which were changed 2 days later for F1s

Coming round this roundabout a little fast in the wet. Forgot I wasnt in my Nova GTE and whoose ass end went out and I slid across the road and just got it back in hand before I whacked the curb

Wouldnt have been happy. Much better with 4 of the same tyres hehe ;)

MR2 tubbies are about the most mental motors I have ever driven for rear end arse out action. Mind you they can be a little unpredictable in the wet to say the least.

Have noticed that the Clio does tell you exactly what it is doing, nice to have a car that allows you to "play" with it on the limit.

Best place to learn is on a track, remember the roads have other people on them, and a car hurtling towards them sideways tends to get people a bit pissed!

i dont think clios handle well, i dont trust my car after it spun doing 40 in the rain. although ive now heard of about 5 crashes since me on the exact same corner. maybe something is up with the turn.
