Clio 1.2 8v tapping noise.

Ive done a search and I cant find anything on my type of clio, only the sport models etc.

So just a quick question..

Ive got a w reg clio 75000 miles, I know its not brand new and I apreciate that engines at this mileage can be noisy sometimes.

However mine taps quite loudly on idle.. you can start the car, wait 15 seconds and its there, very top end, then you rev the car and it dissapears for about 5 or 10 seconds, then slowly comes back everytime.

Is this just a tappet issue/easy fix?

Any information is apreciated.

how does it sound revving at say 2.5k rpm?

Check the straps holding in the airbox mate. Mine comes loose every now and then and rattles off the heatshield. Annoying as hell but just open the bonnet, pop it back in and your fine

cable ties round it pulled tight with pliers has done the trick for me
