I've got a set of K&N 57i fitted to my 8v rxe, dunno if this is the same engine as yours? Can't comment on actual performance gains/loss, but from personal opinion, the sound is sweet and the car is less prone to stalling 
top speed is reduced slightly (could be the unshielded filter taking in heat from the engine) and so far the vehicle seems to be very sensitive to temp. changes, ie winter to summer. Hope this helps!
