Clio 128 gt

The engine range is quite similar in the swift range as the Clio range isn't,

the new sport looks great on the outside but the interior is nothing I terms of looks compared to the Clio which is nearly 7 years old.

The suspension on the GT is 15% stiffer and lower, with a thicker rear anti roll bar iirc, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I agree that it is much more fun revving the tits off a petrol but, as what I've heard the 1.6 really doesn't give that rewarding feeling as it is gutless

yep mate that sounds about right, the setup on it is awesome, it manages to offer little body roll, while soaking up bumps with ease, it does feel quite stiff on the road compaired to a Dyn S but in no way uncomfortable. The 200 with cup pack can be very uncumfy on the road but i dont mind as its the cars party piece when pushing on!

not a lot of love on here for the GT but i would defend them all day long as its the best car ive owned. However i would never touch a petrol one, cost similar to buy compaired to a 200, similar running costs etc for a less focused and much slower car, the diesel ones though are cracking. its hard to find a nice fun to drive cheap to run diesel hatch, but the clio GT DCi does just that! - fiesta ZS tdci being another good one.

I paid £11.5 and that was with malta blue paint. The 200 was far more, iirc like £16.5K minimum, then the insurance - Killer. Extra money for tax..... Too much for me as a 20 year old student working part time could afford. Also points on licence dont help either.

I drive a few bmw diesels practically every week, 330d, 320d's, x5 4.0d, remapped 118d (and a Golf GTD), im pretty sure they have a better power curve than a clio 1.5 dci, and I get back into my lowly petro clio and each time think "thank f**k I dont own a diesel". Theyre so f**king boring, great for driving about round town as theres loads of torque to play with but f**k me, where it really matters (to me) is down back roads. I dont care if the DCI would s**t all over the Petrol in any situation, I LOVE nailing that poor little 1600cc engine down open roads. Get in the diesels......"is that it?!". Sure it munches up road better than a petrol does but when it comes down to it I find the petrol more fun.

Perfectly valid points youve raised that im well aware of, economy, bags of torque etc. But fun to drive they are not. Id sacrifice that wherever possible.

That said The 128 petrol is gutless and at times frustrating but it suits me just fine. Backroads is where it really does it for me, roads which I drive on daily.

OP - Either get the DCI with loads of torque, or the Suzuki Swift Sport as thats a far better engine and car. In hindsight Id of been better with that.
